Black Science #2

Dec 21, 2013

There was honestly nothing bad about this comic. The art or story was not lacking and every factor was top notch, however the “wow factor” from the first issue has subsided a bit and isn't the best book that came out this week. Nevertheless it's still a fantastic issue and deserves your money. This is a gorgeously fun comic. From Remender's colouring and witty dialogue, Scalera's incredible artwork to Dean White's dynamic colouring, this book is excellently crafted and an astounding piece of narrative. If people aren't buying this book, they are seriously missing out.

Coffin Hill #2

Nov 17, 2013

I would advise picking up Coffin Hill for the sheer fact that it is so different to any other comic out right now. The allusion of witchcraft and dark magic is interesting and should prompt one to pick up the book on that factor itself. The art is pretty good and the dialogue is great and I could see Caitlin Kittredge writing superhero dialogue because she has such a skill with it. Overall this is a pretty good issue and has prompted me to continue to pick up this series.

East of West #7

Nov 6, 2013

Even though East of West can be a confusing series, for the most part (with some revision) it is easy enough to follow. A great thing about the story is that it flows and never feels like a chore to read. The universe of East of West is incredible and it is always fun to see it expand. Although Jonathan Hickman's writing can come off as cryptic, he is still a skilled writer and teamed with Nick Dragotta, he makes a killer comic book. If you haven't started reading East of West I would advise picking up the first trade as it's dirt cheap and will get you caught up quickly. East of West is one of the best books coming out of Image and this issue is really solid and well worth picking up.

East of West #8

Dec 21, 2013

Overall, East of West is a fantastic series well worth picking up; however, not every issue is a five star book. Hickman does have a large amount of books that he is currently writing and he may be struggling to distribute attention and the sheer fact that he has been able to keep all his books consistently good is astounding. This issue is one of the worse issues of “East of West” but by no means should stop you from picking up this title. The plot is steadily (though slowly) moving along and is well worth it's place on your pull list. East of West is a fantastic title that does have certain hiccups; this issue being one of them.

Fatale #18

Nov 6, 2013

Overall I wouldn't recommend jumping on at any point other than issue one which would make your best bet to pick up the trades. They are frequently released and would make the story much clearer than jumping on now. However if you're thinking of jumping off this title I would advise against it as Brubaker is planning something big that any comic fan will not want to miss

Lazarus #5

Dec 12, 2013

Overall, Lazarus is a comic that is extremely intelligent and proves it to each and every one of it's readers. It has both likable and unlikable characters, a killer political narrative, superstar art by Michael Lark and dialogue that is up to par of that of Brian Michael Bendis. If you are not picking up Lazarus I would highly recommend you to pick up the trade as it's like five bucks on Amazon. Seriously people this is an incredible comic that you need to be picking up.

Marvel Knights X-Men #1

Nov 16, 2013

Overall this is a pretty interesting book and I would advise you to pick it up to see what you think. If you don't love the first issue I would maybe advise you to come back to this when it is published in a trade paperback as I think it will read better as a whole being a miniseries. Revel perfectly combines great art and great dialogue to create a very solid issue that is a bit of fun reading.

Velvet #3

Jan 15, 2014

Overall Velvet is one of the best new series that Image is currently publishing. Brubaker is a fantastic writer which is shown vividly here in this thrilling title. The story of a spy conspiracy may not be completely original, but Brubaker pulls it off so well that it feels both unique and classic. His character writing is superb as well and his knack for dialogue is both fun and endearing. My only gripe with this issue is that some scenes feel disconnected and a bit too fast paced making this issue feel a bit underwritten and short. Epting's art paired with Breitweiser's colors is a key factor in why I pick up this title and continues to amaze me. This series is utterly superb and deserves to be continued for many more issues. Velvet is essential to any comic reader's pull list.
