Although "The Magic Order" #1 serves largely as an introduction to the characters, and to a slightly lesser degree the world, it sets the reader up for an engrossing, fantastical whodunit.

"The Standoff" is just clich enough to pack no real surprises or create suspense, even in its teaser reveal for issue #2. An okay read for those who find comfort in action-packed, gory predictability but otherwise, a pass.
