Adventure Time: The Flip Side #1

Jan 9, 2014

This new story in the Adventure Time franchise is about things being different from what they appear to be. It looks like this is going to be a longer story-arc. Which is great because adventures are hard to finish so quickly.

Adventure Time: The Flip Side #2

Feb 6, 2014

Adventure Time: The Flip Side # 2 is so much fun. It has everything I love about the regular comic series, the breaking of the fourth wall to explain weird situations, the long talk that has nothing to do with the main thought but still makes you learn about Ooo, the unexpected Jake actions and the randomness

Alex + Ada #5

Mar 25, 2014

The difference between these androids and humans are choices, Ada now can choose. But with choices comes consequences, and that is hard to learn even for geniuses, so I'm looking forward to seeing how she is going to learn.

Alex + Ada #6

May 8, 2014

This comic always makes me think about humanity and I really like that. Is a fun read yet it invites to reflection. I also like how the relationship between Ada and Alex is being built. They are learning about each other just as Ada is learning about the world, little by little, seeing what makes them different and similar. The art is great as usual and there is a cliff hanger that just made me scream.

Clone #15

This was unusually wordy for a Clone issue but it was worth it, a complicated situation was perfectly explained and the characters feel more human under circumstances that will change their lives forever.

Deadly Class #2

Feb 26, 2014

This isn't the same-old story where the "high school for bad guys" exaggerates character personalities so they seem more likable. In Deadly Class they are just teenagers with lethal training.

Deadly Class #3

Mar 27, 2014

Deadly Class #3 is emotionally charged with an ending that takes a while to digest and that tells the tale with art, if you are not aware of the art it will not click until later. This is a feast to the eyes and hard on the soul.Sometimes life is the hardest school.

Deadly Class #5

May 28, 2014

This definitely is the part where they let kids know drugs are bad for them. But it is awesomely written. Starting with the first panel you can feel the paranoia, the lack of judgement, the rapid and sometimes erratic movements, you feel the effects of acid and the anxiety Marcus is experiencing. The colors help with this acid trip. They change, from blues to reds to whites to yellows and they keep changing. The art also helps to maintain the acid trip, the expressions on Marcus while he is high and on the others, you can see fear, hate, surprise, desperation. Also the fights ,everything seems stop motion and painful.

Deadly Class #7

Sep 19, 2014

The art is as usual amazing and the details it brings to the story can be a little graphical but they help with the visualization of the cruel reality this comic is in. I really liked a panel where one of the students stops an arrow in mid-air. It's a very fluid panel with expression and the coloring on it, its dark with the tattoos of the student popping out with color, it looks really good. They keep the same style as the other issues where the color palette of the panels change with the mood the story has, I will keep liking that style.

Halo: Escalation #2

Jan 4, 2014

This issue is similar to a mission in the game. You get the cutscene explaining what is happening and then the orders to follow; you play, explore, kill some bad guys, it ends up being more complicate that you first thought. What it makes it more than just a mission is the mystery of who is the mole, and when we get a hint, it takes us by surprise as it should.

Headspace #1

Mar 4, 2014

So it can be a little confusing, I enjoy confusing tales and mind puzzle stories, but it may not be for everyone. The art is really good and I really liked the way they put different styles for Carpenter Cove and for the story of the fugitive making them look different so they may be a visual cue that they are not in the same place or maybe not even in the same reality. I actually look forward to reading more so I can solve the mystery.

Powerpuff Girls #5

Jan 15, 2014

You can be a Powerpuff and not be perfect but overcoming fear, knowing when to give a second chance and making good deeds makes you wonderful and perfect just the way you are. Besides my sentimentalist interpretation, this issue has amazing art and colors, the girls pop out of the page and you feel like you are watching TV.

oung girls can laugh a little with super-heroines that look a little more like them, but still kick ass, and also boys can enjoy it and see maybe there are not many super-heroines, but we are as cool as boys. The colors and the art are as usual incredible, it feels you are in an HD TV.

I have to say that colors seem more vibrant in this issue and I really liked it a lot. When they fly in and out of the house or they fly fast and leave a color mark behind, the monsters and the fights with them, they are so full of colors you can distinguish one from another in a crow.

I keep liking that this story looks like a study about sexuality and what it means to each individual or even how it defines parts of the personality. We had the stories on how they came to realize what sex was and how they could do this time stopping trick. Now we are coming to know them as a whole.

Shutter #2

May 15, 2014

The art of Shutter # 2 is beautiful, my favorite page is where the three lions in the flying car attack the chicken. The mane of the lions is flying, their faces are portrait according to the task they are doing at the moment, concentrated, agitated, ferocious. The flying car looks like is flying by itself and there is a paper as background.

The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys #6

Dec 30, 2013

Issues number 3 and 4 were a little slow but there is nothing slow about this one. It is fast paced, a war you know is going to happen, but what you really want to know is the outcome. It is a good finish for the general story of oppression and for The Girl. I would like to see more of Korse and Blue, also about the new Killjoys; we do not have anything on those characters, so maybe more issues to further describe the universe they are in would be nice. Cloonan's art is vibrant as usual; Dan Jackson, the colorist, does an amazing job with his art, the rebellious and "rock and roll" vibe of the book is consistent until the end.

Tomb Raider #1

Feb 27, 2014

The cover art is really good: the position, the arch, the wounds, the background with bones. Also the interior art is good, I was expecting more realistic but it actually went well with the issue the colors are vibrant and for once she is not over-sexualized.

Veil #1

Mar 5, 2014

The story, we are talking about Greg Rucka, we know it is going to be a good ride. I enjoyed the first silent pages because it gives you a hint of what is happening, I feel rats will have some importance, since they do not seem to harm Veil. The concept that nudity is not consent to touch is explored here and even if the direct act is not seen, we see the harassment caused by her being naked, no one offered to cover her up until Dante came. I also like that even if she is a damsel in distress "saved" by a "prince," she is the one defending herself. She reminds me of River from Firefly.

Veil #2

Apr 2, 2014

Wordless storytelling, the type that mesmerize you. The images show you what happened and hints at what will happen. We add words to this , we have magic. A supernatural crime story that keeps your eyes glued and makes you notice every hue of color. Rucka and Fejzula left me surprised as the second issue is better than the first.

This story is beautifully created to be a constant tension source for the reader, it is slow paced but the action is there when necessary to surprise and leave you wondering what is going on for real. I cannot say how much the art style helps this story, the shadows, the coloring they are all perfect and Veil # 3 keeps making me wanting more.

Wayward #2

Sep 26, 2014

The story starts good, with Rori adjusting to Japan and trying to process what she experienced withAyane. School goes as planned but there is something wrong and it feels too soon in the story for something supernatural to happen even if is just a feeling. Also we notice Rori has a self-destructive way of handling pressure, this is actually a good subject to touch on a coming of age story were the main character comes from a broken family, but again with the weird feeling of something supernatural and then this happening, I think it should be vice versa, more school, than self-destructive behavior and then the supernatural weird feeling. Also we realize what is wrong very easily and the issue resolves as if nothing major had happened. Otherwise it is a fun read. The art is marvelous and so are the colors.
