The Jim Hensons Labyrinth 30th Anniversary Special is made up of a selection of unconnected short stories that feature characters from the movie. None of them have any link to the movie and dont have any greater significance other than to entertain and delight. Theres no big meaning or large narrative on display, the comic is about revisiting and enjoying the laid back world of the Labyrinth.

This is an outstanding opening issue for a much anticipated series. The previous run by Simon Spurrier and Aaron Campbell was an exhilarating thrill ride of magic, mayhem, and humour. 'Dead In America' has started in exactly the same vain. It may cause offense. In fact, it should cause offense. It is offensive in the best possible way.

At the end of the last issue, Dredd was accepted as a resident into Ang Avi, the de-evolved version of the Angela Davis block that the Judge is more familiar with. Once inside, it doesnt take long before he is climbing into the depths of the tower block to see what makes it tick. In scenes reminiscent of the 2005 movie The Decent, Dredd ventures into the pitch blackness and comes face to face with some horrifying creatures.

Beautiful, exhilarating and completely immersive. It's as if the creators of Pretty Deadly have torn a dream directly from your mind and laid it out in a comic book. Every aspect of this comic is outstanding.

This version of Hit-Girl seems so removed from previous versions. Milligan is telling his story of a corrupt Indian city and fitting Hit-Girl into that. It works, and it works well but you do get the feeling this story could easily exist without Mindy's presence.

Although not directly linking with either the regular monthly or the Pink Ranger spin off, this comic still offers something worthwhile for any Power Rangers Fan

A mix of franchises that manages to keep the reader engrossed however much you do, or do not, know about each separate element. The Apes, the Lanterns, the writer and the artist all shine in this first issue of a mini series.

A clever building of tension is set in a magnificent world created by the large art team. Get in on the ground floor for this series as it's going to get massive.

Earth One if a wonderful re-imaging of the Hal Jordan Green Lantern Character. It's atmospheric, creatively smart, and enjoyable to look at. All it lacks is appeal to anyone outside it's target audience of Green Lantern fans.

Omni is a fresh take on the Superhero genre. Although it shares links with a greater, superhero universe, this issue is accessible by all readers. A strong start to a series.

A fascinating journey of historical education which is as much about the format of Comics as it is about Animation. It is an inviting and easy read but fails to challenge some of the difficult subjects at the core of the narrative.

Although light on characters, the re-telling of 30 Days Of Night concentrates on building the atmosphere and making sure that the reader feels the fear.

30 Days of Night is an exceptionally crafted comic that wallows in bloody violence. But the characters Steve Niles has created gives the ready a small sense of hope. Hope enough to come back next month to see how the hero will survive.

Re-branded and re-released, Dead Eyes (Formerly Dead Rabbit) is still a magnificent read. Dark, moody artwork and great storytelling make this a funny, entertaining and, in places, hard hitting comic.

A solid, satisfying read with atmospheric art work throughout. Gerry Duggan takes the vigilante archetype and puts him in a Die Hard like situation.

Reaching the halfway mark and 'Kong' has yet to disappoint on any score. The narrative and Art work in tandem to produce a worthy successor to the original Apes movies.

An impressive mix of two popular franchises. The characterisation and artistic representation of both make this series enjoyable and, with an added twist or two, the comic is entertaining from cover to cover.

Although not the best in the series, the kinetic action sequences are expertly rendered and the story naturally flows towards the finale next month. This issue makes big promises that makes the next issue impossible to miss.

Alien: The Original Screenplay is difficult to rate. The visuals are packed with atmosphere and some of the design work is outstanding. Unfortunately it is a mere shadow of the movie the script would be become. Enjoyment will be based entirely on your ability to dissociate this comic from what you already know of the franchise.

Atmospheric opening to Dark Horse Comics new Aliens comic. A tight script and unsettling Art make this a must for all fans of the franchise.

The story hots up for the two central characters as the creators throw then into a deeply atmospheric narrative. What this comic lacks in character it more than makes up for with setting and tone.

There are some good elements to this comic but the whole is disappointing. Great character work can't disguise the lack of threat required for this sci-fi horror story. A dip in the expected standard from this creative team.

This is a comic with great potential that is ultimately let down by the narrative. The impressive art work, especially by colorist Candice Han, just isn't enough to push this franchise comic from Fan Only to a Must Read.

With a strong central character and an intriguing mystery, Oberon #1 is a solid first issue. The lack of interesting supporting characters is overshadowed by the clever design work and panel layouts.

An over the top theatrical extravagance. Oberon is full of mystery, adventure. and references to fantasy from all mediums. This is an enjoyable comic heading for greatness.

Oberon is an enjoyable read and contains all of the theatrics that the reader is coming to expect from Parrott, Slavkovic and Pritchett. There are a few dips in the narrative but the Art pulls the reader along.

Black Widow is a comic with a lot of potential but hasn't quite found it's voice yet. There is a good creative team who can hopefully find their feet before the mini-series comes to an end.

Supergirl #32 is a beautifully paced battle sequence, packed with witty banter.

A return to Earth signals a return to form for Supergirl. An entertaining issue that proves Event tie-ins can stand by themselves.

A run of the mill superhero fight scene fills most of this issue making it feel like a filler issue. Exciting artwork almost makes up for the unimaginative plot.

With such a strong tie to the Year of the Villain crossover event, this issue will only appeal to those invested in the DC Universe. The larger Event story belittles the ongoing Supergirl narrative that readers have been following for the last few months. A disappointment in a number of ways.

The new writer and artist bring some fun back to the Last Daughter of Krypton. There is still some way to go to get Supergirl back on top, but it's heading in the right direction.

A great action packed issue. If superheroes fighting is your thing then this issue will hit all the right spots. However, if you've not been keeping up to date with Kara's story, maybe give this one a miss.

Despite the amazing creative talent working on this run of Supergirl, the plot has been hampered by Event baggage and the need to to tie in with the greater DC Universe. One for long time readers only.

An excellent adventure but the constant references and in jokes may grate on some readers

Fun, frolics, and plenty of gags. This Bill and Ted comic has all the fan favourite characters and a very familiar story-line. A prime example of entertainment for entertainments sake and will definitely pass 15 minutes, but probably not a keeper.

GLOW succeeds as a Teen Drama Sports comic but fails as a companion to the Netflix T.V.show. This comic if a fun read but lacks the depth and darkness you might be expecting. This will be enjoyed most by new readers to the GLOW concept.

A fun piece of B-Movie goriness for an audience who accept and enjoy low brow narratives.

A well written and drawn comic that unfortunately doesn't offer anything new or outstanding.

A strong opening issue with spectacular art work that allows the reader to become engrossed in the narrative. Any familiarity in the plot is overshadowed by pacing writing.

This comic still has those elements that I enjoyed from issue one and two, the Quantum Leap meets Hellblazer vibe, it is just let down by the central characterization. Clichs take over and the plot gets lost. At some points it may even make you think of the Doctor Who episode A Town Called Mercy but that probably isn't a good thing.

Kurt Sutter and Caitlin Kittredge‘s Lucas Stand started on a high that it had difficulty reaching in the following issues. The central character hopped through time like a drug addled Sam Beckett from Quantum Leap and the narrative often fell too easily into time travelling cliches. However Lucas has arrived in the future and the comic has the opportunity to dig into his psyche in ways not possible previously.

A great start to a spin off mini-series but one that is more for the fans than the roaming reader.

Mountainhead comes out firing on all cylinders but loses pace halfway through. Strong elements lead you through to the end but don't cover up the cracks in the narrative.

Capturing the essence of Punk Rock, this comic is an excellent opening to a series with exceptional art and an intriguing script. Comedy and horror are mixed with hilarious results.

A fast-paced, socially aware, narrative and some intriguing Artwork make this a fascinating read. Not the best in the run but it sets the scene for what promises to be an emotional confrontation for the central character.

Over recent years Roller Derby has become an extremely popular sport. Theres probable not a major city in America or the UK that doesnt have a Roller Derby team. Anyone who has been to see a live game will have noticed the intensity; not just of the game but also of the relationships between skaters, between teams and between supporters. The Derby world is one massive family with a full contact sport thrown into the middle.

The Black Monday Murders is not a narrative that will appeal to a large audience, but the visuals and the design are spectacular.

Jim Thompson was a crime writer who was largely unrecognised during his lifetime. He wrote harrowing fiction that dealt with the darkest regions of Mans soul. Some of his work has been transposed into film, work such as The Grifters, and now IDW are reimaging his work for comic book readers.

The design and artwork are spectacular from cover to cover. Unfortunately, the story itself becomes confused and this makes it difficult for the reader to become as immersed as the art requires.

Worth a read for a feeling of completion but doesn't quite offer everything you hope for.

A surprising start to the series, especially if you know nothing about this comic going in. The pages are packed with information which has it's ups and downs but overall an enthralling read.

A deluge of repetitive exposition dampens the thrills in this issue. The links to the real world health crisis should enhance the horror aspect of the comic but unfortunately it doesn't quite hit the mark. An okay filler issue with some exciting art work to pass the time.

This final issue would be mediocre at the best of times, however in the current climate it has suffered more than most. It has a rushed ending with art that follows suit. If you'd been waiting expectantly for this conclusion you will likely be disappointed.

A fan pleasing Star Trek story that encapsulates everything that makes a perfect Star Trek story. The cast are wonderfully rendered although the lack of emotion in the art adds a woodenness to some of the characterisation.

With a vast cast of characters The Q Conflict has the potential for greatness. Unfortunately, this second issue does not build on the concepts of the first issue and the story just doesn't pick up speed. Great Art fills the pages but it has no story to tell.

This comic is bogged down by a desperate need to include as many characters as possible from the Star Trek Universe. Plot elements barely have time to grow before they are shut down to move on to the next cameo appearance. Despite some wonderful art, The Q Conflict has run it's course.

A disappointing end to a promising comic. The artists try to create some excitement but the plot just does't back it up.

This first issue sets the scene wonderfully, creating a mood and tone that prevails throughout. The story and art have promise but lack the punch required to draw a reader in.

Not up to the same standard as issue #1, but the artwork makes issue #2 worth picking up and gives hope for the rest of the series.

After a successful start to the series the narrative has taken a turn for the worse. The art continues to impress but it has become drowned in cliches and terrible plot twists.

Another month, another issue of MMPR: Pink from Boom! Studios. While the main title continues unabated, Pink has had a wobble or two. Falling from the height reached in issue one Pink has yet to climb back on top. And it doesnt look like the creators are in a rush to scale those heights again as they push out another disappointing issue. But what exactly is the problem?

An uninspiring use of an over used plot make this a comic that tries hard but fall short. There are elements of the comic that are impressive but not enough for most people to commit to a purchase.

Great art leads the reader through this spectacle of a comic. Unfortunately, the plot isn't as engaging and the characters feel lacking. Fun and entertaining but probably not a keeper.

A bold, classic Sci-fi inspired start to IDWs new Mars Attacks. It sets the scene while introducing the readers to an amazing new character but a few layout issues impact upon the narrative at times.

IDW's Mars Attacks will appeal to people who love straightforward Alien Invasions stories and with the addition of gruesome art, this makes it worth a read.

A good looking comic that is let down by an unsatisfactory narrative and pointless over scripting.

Go-Bots is a comic with great potential but the simplistic narrative and art style make it difficult to take seriously. A mix of ingenious and questionable panel choices create an unbalanced read, flipping between charming and laughable.

If you figure out what this comic is trying to be then you will find more enjoyment in it. The unhappy blend of horror and comedy never quite strikes the right balance and the reading experience suffers because of this.

For a comic that has so much promise, it fails to meet expectations. All of the character and personal drama from the two parent titles is almost missing from this first part of a long crossover event. Hope for the future, but not the outstanding start you would expect.

Intriguing art and wonderful scene setting isn't enough to make this comic engaging. An unlikable central character distances the reader and, unlike other titles by Rich Tommaso, Dry County doesn't have a hook necessary to reel the audience in.
