'68: Jungle Jim #1

Apr 7, 2013

If you are not a fan of the zombie genre, this will not change your mind. If you are looking for a deep examination of the zombie genre, skip this book. But if you just want some bloody, zombie smashing fun, then this is the book for you. '68 - Jungle Jim #1 earns 3 out of 5 stars overall.

Action Comics (2011) #23.3

Sep 25, 2013

If you want a good villain's month book, and are at all a fan of Lex Luthor, than you should definitely pick up this issue. Its the best portrayal of Luthor I have seen in a one-shot and definitely worth the price of admission.

Adventure Time #10

Dec 30, 2012

Weather you are a long time fan, or have always wanted to try Adventure Time, this comic is accessible and greatly enjoyable. However, if you are not a fan already, be prepared for some whacky plot and whacky humor. But, in the end, Adventure Time #10 does exactly what it tries to do; be a light hearted, funny, and fun comic book. Pick it up for yourself, sit down, and go on an adventure.

Adventure Time: The Flip Side #1

Jan 14, 2014

While everything in this issue is great, there is just not enough of the overall story here to be worth four whole dollars. Im sure it will read great when it is collected in a trade paper back, but this just feels like the writers are teasing us. However, if you are fine with shelling out four dollars for a somewhat unfulfilling chunk of a top quality story, this is one of the finest chunks currently on the stands.

Adventures Of Superman (2013) #1

Jun 4, 2013

If you are a mega Superman fan then you should definitely pick up this collection of, at the very least, solid stories. But for the casual fan or comic reader I really have to suggest picking up the individual digital issues because they are both cheaper and let you cherry pick the best stories, which are definitely worth reading.

Amazing Spider-Man (1999) #700.4

Dec 26, 2013

If you are a die-hard Peter Parker fan than you probably already picked up this book. If you have not, then you really should because this is some classic Parker writing. If you are a casual fan of Spider-Man like myself, then this comic is also very much worth picking up. This book is quality in every aspect.

Animal Man (2011) #21

Jun 25, 2013

If you have been reading Animal Man, then keep reading it, because its just as excellent as always. If you wanted to start reading Animal Man than this is as good of a jumping on point as any, since it seems to be the start of a new arc. So pick it up!

Astro City (2013) #3

Aug 19, 2013

Its incredibly refreshing to read a book that makes me feel just genuinely optimistic. A book that really delivers on just a great tale, set in a super hero universe, that never tries to be anything more than it is. To me, Astro City, always has been, and continues to be, a perfect superhero story.

Avengers (2012) #3

Jan 27, 2013

If you have ever wanted to read Avengers but could never find a good point to jump in, this is the series for you. Start from issue one and catch up, it's a hell of a read so far and promises to only get better. There have been some complaints that this arc has invalidated some previous Marvel canon in regards to the beginnings of their universe, but I have always been of the opinion that each story or arc plays in its own canon more or less. I seriously recommend this book. Avengers #3 earns 4 out of 5 stars overall.

Batman / Superman (2013) #1

Jul 2, 2013

This is easily the best thing DC is putting out right now. If it continues down this path then it could easily end up on a number of "must read" lists once its collected. Do yourself a favor and read this issue.

Before Watchmen: Dr. Manhattan #1

Aug 26, 2012

Its a solid comic, nothing inherently wrong with it, just nothing exactly special or exciting either. The last couple of pages did pique my interest enough to read the next issue. If you are a die hard fan of Dr. Manhattan and just need to read more about him then by all means pick this up, but if you are on the fence then do not bother, its not worth the $3.99 for someone with a passing interest.

Sep 24, 2012

I went into Blue Beetle #0 with low hopes, with previous zero issues having left a bad taste in my mouth. I walked away presently surprised. It did everything a zero issue was supposed to do and made me want to pick up the next issue. So pick it up!

So far Marvel NOW has give a good share of fantastic comics, and Captain America #1 is among them. If you have any love for Captain America or superhero comics as a genre, then you are doing yourself a disservice by not picking this comic up.

Does this live up to its predecessors in terms of quality? Yes. Was it worth the long wait between issues? Yes. Did this issue end on a cliffhanger that left me wanting more? Yes. Should you, faithful Spoilerite, spare yourselves the pain and just read this in trade formate? Oh, hell yes.

Dial H #15

Aug 12, 2013

If you were reading Dial H thus far, then this is the finale you have been waiting for. If you have not been reading Dial H then now is a great time to start from issue one. It's a shame a book this good had to go, but it had a great run and has lasted more than many other New 52 titles.

Django Unchained #1

Dec 24, 2012

Not having seen the movie at the time of this writing, I cannot say how close it is to it though, but I have a feeling the first issue is pretty close to what you can expect to see on the screen. Regardless, this is a very solid western comic, and detached from the movie I would be saying go out and buy this if you are at all interested in the wild wild west.

Forever Evil #1

Sep 9, 2013

I just cannot recommend this book, especially with two other superhero events going on that I feel both outshine Forever Evil in terms of, well, everything. But if you already bought it, I would say you should seriously consider getting the next one and then deciding from there whether to drop it.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2013) #1

Mar 31, 2013

This is not worth picking up. It's not a terrible comic, but it just is not different enough from everything else Marvel is putting out to justify buying. It was kind of boring to be honest, and a series about Rocket Racoon and the living tree-man Groot should not be boring.

If you never liked the Hulk, then you should most definitely be picking this book up, because if anything will change your mind, this will.

Injustice: Gods Among Us #1

Feb 3, 2013

In the end this comic is marketing for a bigger thing that the parent company hopes to make more money off of. They have no real stake in weather or not this comic is good because it is just meant to remind us all about the property until the release date. Well, weather on purpose or by happy accident, they ended up making a really good comic. If you were on the fence about getting the game, this will put you firmly in the "buy" camp, or at least it did for me. If you are already going to get the game then this comic is a wonderful little treat to sedate your appetite until release. If you just want a good single issue superhero story, then this is the perfect thing to pick up. Over all, I recommend you go buy this.

Mudman #5

Sep 4, 2012

Definitely worth picking up, just not at the $3.50 price point. Wait for the month after release, when the price drops down to $1.99 (disclaimer: all my knowledge on comic pricing comes from Comixology). Mudman, despite its problems, is shaping up to be one hell of a story, if the plot points hinted at pan out. Above everything else though, Mudman is charming, really charming. Its like the Forrest Gump of comics, a bit silly, not the smartest thing out there, clumsy, but overwhelming charming and it always means well.

If you are sick of comics all being the same then this is the comic for you. I cannot promise you will like it, it's not for everyone, but you will definitely remember it and find it different from anything else you are currently reading. It definitely jived well with me, so pick it up.

Phantom Stranger (2012) #0

Sep 9, 2012

Overall its a sub-par comic. Its too vague to hold my interest, and it doesn't raise any questions or give the reader a hook for the next issue. The Phantom Stranger just seems to accept his world of enigma, and has no drive to ever get any answers to what exactly is going on. If the comic continues in such a fashion, then it will just be boring. Save your money on this one, I really do not recommend it.

Pretty Deadly #1

Oct 30, 2013

Overall I have some trouble recommending this book. The art might be worth it for those who really value style over substance, but for those looking for a satisfying read this is just a let down. For those who are really hurting for another western series, and have already exhausted all there is to offer, might consider sticking it out on this to see if things pay off down the line. Over all I'd suggest waiting for the trade so as to get a more complete story experience.

Repossessed #1

Dec 31, 1969

I can not, in any good conscious, recommend this book. It is definitely not the worst thing I have read, but it sure as hell was not the best. Its just so lacking in so many areas, and not worth adding to your pull list in a time where comics are more expensive then ever. If you have an itch for some urban fantasy, like I do, go read Hellboy instead (or just re-watch Blade).

Resurrection Man (2011) #0

Sep 16, 2012

As a zero issue this book failed to deliver a jumping on point for new readers. If anything it alienates new readers from a comic they might otherwise enjoy. If you are already reading the series and want to wrap up the current arc then by all means pick this up, otherwise stay far, far away.

Saga #6

Aug 19, 2012

The only complaint I had with this issue is a very minor story one. Sometimes we must make conceits to advance an otherwise great plot. The art is still great, and the tale manages to be personal and fantastical at the same time. If you are not reading this, then you are not reading comics.

Snapshot #1

Feb 10, 2013

Despite my problems with this book, it was still worth the $2.99 I spent on it. I am most likely going to read the next issue, just to see how the mystery builds. If you want a good, new, thriller comic to read, than this is right up your alley. If you liked either creator's previous works then you will probably like this too.

Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi: Prisoner of Bogan #1

Dec 3, 2012

If you are a fan of this series of Star Wars comics, or really the Star Wars comics at all, then I would suggest picking this up. If you are completely new the Star Wars comic universe, then this is might not be for you. It is a bit off putting having the issue throw so much information at you at once, but if you really want to get into this series, or have already picked this up, then give it at least until the second issue before deciding for good. It seems like the story might pick up.

Transfusion #1

Oct 15, 2012

Transfusion #1 is a good book, do not get me wrong, but it's four whole dollars. While the art is amazing, the story just does not justify the price point. I highly suggest looking for other comics worked on by Menton3, especially for something a much lower price. If you really need some vampires, then wait for the trade.

Unfortunately, Voodoo has already been cancelled. Its a shame, the zero issue was really good and actually convinced me to go back and try reading Voodoo from the beginning. I'll level with you, dear reader, if you are a fan of Who Is Jake Ellis? then definitely pick this up or at least give it a look, though at the $3.50 price tag I would just wait for the trade. If you are a new comer, then do not bother, you will leave the book confused and off put.
