All New Fathom (2017) #1

Feb 14, 2017

Blake Northcott does a lot of interesting things especially with the narrative. Using a flashback and parodied social media sites to show not only the events of the issue through Aspen's perspective but the public's as well. This issue is extremely entertaining to read and any comic that starts with what's essentially a shoryuken into the sky is a must read for action lovers.

All New Fathom (2017) #2

Mar 7, 2017

All New Aspen offers a lot. There's great action, gorgeous art and commentary on the comic industry and social media as a whole. The commentary is a nice breath of fresh air as well. Sometimes things like that can feel heavy handed or preachy but it seems level headed so far.

All New Fathom (2017) #3

Apr 11, 2017

As mentioned before this issue is more about building up future events and battles. So it gets wordy. Perhaps too wordy for the reader that just wants more cool fights. For everyone else the characters charm and the bit of action that is present should whet the appetite.

All New Fathom (2017) #4

This volume of Fathom has been some of the most entertaining comics recently. It's art just gets even better and the buildup this issue has to the next is fantastic. For entertainment and for a series you want to get invested in Fathom is a home run.

With more laugh a minute gags, and some really high energy looking art and more 80s action movie references you can't go wrong with Amerikarate. If you're a fan of 80s cheese, gag a minute writing, and high energy action then you owe it to yourself to pick this issue up.

Artful #3

Feb 14, 2017

This comic is very fun to read. It has plenty of cool action sequences and the design of the characters and scenery are top notch. Perhaps it's a bit slow on gripping the reader but when it gets going later in the issue it's hard to want to stop.

Artful #4

Mar 14, 2017

Character interactions and character art make this enjoyable. Along with the raised stakes at the end. But if you haven't been reading Artful before this isn't a good jump on spot. It also feels like the pacing is out of whack. The ending feels abrupt as well.

Artful #5

Apr 18, 2017

It was hard to pull away from this comic. I think Artful has really found it's footing with the way it tells its story and its art. The characters now look good stationary and in motion, and the intrigue has you wanting to read every page and get the next issue.

Blue Hour #5

Apr 4, 2017

It definitely felt that this story was worth sticking with, even if the last issue felt a little slow. Seeing the results of all the plans of the multiple sides of humans and aliens, and the explosion of emotions as well made this pretty fun.

Britannia #1

Sep 18, 2016

This comic is definitely 100 percent for mature audiences only. It's not just because of random gory parts but also because this is very smartly written. It's a tense thriller and goes into psychological horror and nightmares. It also has a cool setting with ancient Rome and Britain. This book is totally worth reading for those who want something that's intelligent and intriguing, and don't mind some blood.

Britannia: We Who Are About to Die #1

Apr 24, 2017

This comic has some strangeness to it. It wants to be realistic but some of the things it does are exaggerated when it pertains to the gore. It's quite well written though so it's still an intriguing story and quite the page turner.

Bubble Gun (2017) #1

May 15, 2017

The book is a lot of fun to read, the plot flows well enough and is nothing short of beautiful to look at. The only complaint that can be thought of at the moment would be that it may not be as friendly to new readers who aren't familiar with Bubble Gun's first run. But it isn't completely out of reach to new readers. The main plot isn't so dense, the how's and why's of what's going is spelled out. But character backstory and growth won't be as appreciated by new readers if they just jump into this blind.

Dollface #3

Mar 21, 2017

If you think Dollface is just some dumb comic where there's nudity and violence just for the sake of it you'd be wrong and this issue really drives that home. Doll face's anger and sadness really makes sense. Her brutal fighting style as well makes sense, all her rage would be expressed in that way. Then there's the ending that I did not see coming and makes a great twist. Though I do not like how abrupt it was.

Dollface #4

May 1, 2017

This issue was a blast to read. The fight exceeded my expectations and when it all ended it definitely showed that there's a ton more for Dollface to face. When you finish reading it you'll wonder what Zombie Tramp's motivations are and that there's most likely some more big fights in both Dollface's and Zombie Tramp's future.

Geek Girl #4

May 1, 2017

The feeling of being overwhelmed with side plots from the previous three issues is gone in this one. The pacing is so much better and on top of that the character designs and action are worth checking out. The ending leaves a desire for more as well. It feels like Geek Girl herself didn't really get much growth in this one, and it also felt like the creators of the glasses had some missed potential. It's still a fun comic to read however.

Infinite 7 #3

Apr 4, 2017

Infinite 7 amps up not only the action but the story and characters in it's 3rd issue. There really isn't much to complain about here, perhaps that some characters in the background of this issue don't seem like there's much to them. But as I said they're in the background so it isn't a huge deal in this issue.

Monty the Dinosaur #2

Now this won't give your child any helpful lessons to start a career in a STEM field but it does do something that's also very important and encourages their imagination. It's also charming and as stated before doesn't have anything that would be deemed offensive. So feel safe in picking this one up and read it with your kid.

Ninjak #20

Oct 20, 2016

As mentioned above the story may or may not be hard to follow depending on how much of the previous issues you've read but it is a good story. It might also be a little long but it could be seen as necessary so you can understand the story better. The action scenes and the humor more than make this a good read however. So if you've already been reading Ninjak or don't mind jumping in here and have the patience this will be a good issue to pick up. I give Ninjak # 20 an8 out of 10.

Ninjak #27

May 23, 2017

This issue is definitely the start of something much larger. It also feels like classic Ninjak which if you were a fan of the previous run may or may not be a good thing. As a fan of classic Ninjak and the previous Matt Kindt run this was fine for me. If you've never read an issue of Ninjak before and are a fan of hard hitting and hack and slash action then this is as good a place as any to start reading. If you are a fan then this is definitely worth continuing to read.

Starstruck: Old Proldiers Never Die #1

Mar 9, 2017

Starstruck is a true unique piece of art. It's set in a universe with a lot of depth and that truly feels like it's definitely been lived in. The story got a little hard to follow at times as there were no transitions, from one segment to another sometimes. Meaning the reader should be paying attention. The last third of the book also seems to be a different story if you're not paying attention. All in all this is a pretty good first issue. Hopefully as the story progresses it gets easier to track.

Street Tiger #1

Mar 11, 2017

Ertito Montana is crafting something very special here. This comic doesn't beat around any bushes, matter of fact the only thing this comic beats is skulls because this is a brutal story. It's a fun read though, if you have the stomach for the violence. One con however is that maybe the mystery is too safeguarded. As you don't really have any reason to care for anybody in this issue, as you don't know who they are.

Vampblade '98 (One Shot) #1

Feb 21, 2017

There's a reason I chose to review this book. It's because I took to the fact it was set in 1998. There was something I got into '98 even though it all began in '94 kept on rolling in 95" Although this has nothing to do with that. It just made me nostalgic for it. OK! On to the book itself, this story is a lot of fun. It's like a tense thriller, with high octane action and a dose of sexiness all come together. Some parts of the book's layout felt like it didn't read as well but the plot and art are fine.

Vampblade: Season 2 #1

Mar 28, 2017

This issue has some awesome visuals, and it does explain the internal struggle Katie has now with her blades taking her over. It feels like it didn't have much to say though on the subject. Almost like you could skip this one, though it does have some good info for new readers and an ending that lets you know the stakes are only going to get raised. All in all not a bad issue but it didn't meet expectations.
