All in all this is a great read and is yet another title which is leading the Rebirth universe by example.

America #1

Mar 6, 2017

America #1 is the book that….well…America needs right now. In the wake of what's been happening in our country lately, we need stories of brown, queer, female superheroes to saving the day.

Angel City #1

Oct 6, 2016

I absolutely loved this book. The story, the settings, the characters – everything. It makes me want to grab my nearest Dixon Hill novel and start thumbing through the pages. I recommend anyone to pick this book up and whisk themselves away to a more glamorous and seedy past.

Archangel #2

Jul 14, 2016

This is Gibsons first direct foray into the comic book world and he has translated his undoubted skill as a storyteller from that of his novels to this new format/style seamlessly, creating what I now regard (after reading the story for a third time) is a MUST read for any science fiction fan.

Brik #1

Jul 6, 2016

With a story like this there is always a worry that it will lose itself in the action and forget about the characters which drive the plot. However, looking at the CV of Glass and Benson; I have full confidence that they wont let this rich, engaging story run amok.

Catwoman: Election Night #1

Nov 2, 2016

As a fan of Catwoman I enjoyed all aspects of this book, including the bonus Prez story by Mark Russell. I cant help but wonder though if life is imitating art with this tale or vice versa, given what is happening in the US Presidential elections. And hey, you never know, if Obama reads this story he might be inspired to pull on the cape and cowl and – hopefully – save us all?

Death of Hawkman #1

Oct 5, 2016

DC have thrown the reading audience a bit of a curve ball with this first issue, and, dare I say, breathed fresh life into what I expected to be an somewhat predictable title. However, I am Strangely (see what I did there?) pleased to find my prejudices being challenged and am incredibly excited to get my hands on the next issue.

Groo (1998): Fray of the Gods #1

Jul 20, 2016

If this series sounds completely insane, then that is because it is. The Groo stories are definitely not some historical parable intent on bringing the past to life. Instead, it's very much a “check your brain at the door, strap yourself in and enjoy the ride” type of comic. It takes a comedic swipe all the barbarian or warrior films like Conan and Sinbad, mocking them for that which they take so seriously and making you smile while doing it.

Harley Quinn (2016) #3

Sep 8, 2016

The Clown Princess of Crime has came a long way from the animated vision of Paul Dini and Bruce Timm, however, while I feel that Harley Quinn is finally coming into her own as a character who can carry her own series, I dont believe we have seen the best of her yet. There is a darkness in this character that has yet to be fully revealed. There was a hint of it back in ‘Death of the Family' and is an aspect I'd like to see more of.

Invader Zim #11

Jul 6, 2016

Creator Jhonen Vasquez is helming these continuing adventures of Zim in its new home at Oni Press, and under his direction the wrathful little alien is at his devious best. Sarah Andersons artwork translates the TV show beautifully to the page with none of the anarchic qualities of the show being lost along the way.

Merry Men #1

Jun 12, 2016

In conclusion, I truly hope that in the future this story slows down and begins to develop the characters beyond that of a camp caricature as I really want to enjoy this tale. I started reading this story hoping for a “Prince of Thieves” Robin Hood who happens to be gay but I wound up with Robin Hood: A Gay Prince who might be thief.

New Superman #2

Aug 10, 2016

Unfortunately, in spite of the evident talent of the comic's creators, I cannot help but feel that this story is leap too far and would have been far better suited being based on all new characters and not standing on the shoulders of DC's existing giants.

Red Hood and the Outlaws: Rebirth #1

Jul 27, 2016

This is a cleverly written issue that introduces the reader into the complex relationship between Jason and The Batman, as well as the events which bind and separate them equally. Scott Lobdells writing is a joy to read, keeping the dialogue direct and to the point, never writing more than needs to be said. Dexter Soys artwork has an almost manga-esque quality to it, giving the book a fresh aesthetic while still keeping things feeling familiar throughout.

Spider-Man (2016) #9

Nov 18, 2016

Overall Spider-Man #9 is enjoyable. It lets the friends and family of Spider-Man shine rather than Spider-man himself. It shows you the amount of love and support he gets from his family and that he's got a strong group surrounding him, whether they have powers or not. Some elements felt out of place and the book expects you to have read the main Civil War II storyline which could be frustrating to those who are not reading Civil War II or are holding off for the trade. But, again, overall it's a nice little addition to the Civil War sequel.

Supergirl: Rebirth #1

Aug 17, 2016

While this is a book that lacks the certain ‘wow' factor that I found in the Superman Rebirth stories, this is still a solid enough start, and there's more than enough potential here for me to make me think that it could be one worth keeping an eye on as it progresses.

Superman (2016) #1

Jun 14, 2016

DC needed its flagship character to be a hit straight out of the gate, and in the hands of these custodians they certainly wont be disappointed. As I said at the start, Superman is dead….LONG LIVE SUPERMAN!

Superman (2016) #4

Aug 3, 2016

Once again Tomasi and Gleason have crafted a story which whizzes past at breakneck pace, barely letting up in their relentless development of the story while also mischievously leaving breadcrumbs in the dialogue hinting at where the story is to go. Messrs Gleason, Gray and Kalisz are drawing our hero in a more classic style, and by that I mean there is more than just a hint of Christopher Reeve about him in certain panels, which, if Im honest It I dont mind one bit. If you've ever considered picking up a Superman book but haven't quite gotten round to it, now is most definitely the time.

Tales from the Darkside #1

Jun 14, 2016

I think I expected more from this book than is fair. You can't compare it to Locke and Key, nor to Horns, another Joe Hill tome. It is constrained by the precedent set by the TV series and I think it confines this dynamic duo's ability.

The Electric Sublime #1

Oct 20, 2016

This book is a must read and while it might not be for everyone, its surreal story and manic characters make this an exciting read. In fact, dont even think about it. Just buy the comic, get a comfy seat, strap yourself in, let reality go and enjoy the ride to the Sublime.

The Lost Boys #1

Oct 12, 2016

While this first issue doesnt quite kick into high gear just yet, this series has the potential to be the movie sequel that fans of the film have been desperate to see for years. The artwork captures the likeness of the film perfectly and with an accomplished writer like Tim Seeley at the helm, I am optimistic that this one will appeal to Lost Boys fans both old and new.

Vampirella (2016) #5

Jul 9, 2016

The writing is otherwise solid though, and Kate Leth does a great job (even if it's not necessarily to my taste) of keeping the story tight and fast paced. The action sequences are well written and Eman Casallos' artwork is on point, giving colour and depth to the book. It just doesn't feel like the Vampirella I know and love.
