Adventure Time: 2013 SPOooktacular #1

Oct 31, 2013

Overall the book feels like Halloween candy, lacking in substance but still a pleasure to digest. BOOM! Studios' Adventure Time continues to set the standard for all ages books.

Avengers A.I. #1

Jul 10, 2013

Andre Araujo's art is very good. The characters are nicely detailed, and the action scenes are very energetic. Marvel tends to shift artists quickly, but I'm really hoping they keep Araujo for this book, as his art really meshes well with Humphries' script.

Deadpool (2012) #13

Aug 12, 2013

Deadpool #13 won't change your mind about how you feel about the crazy killer " positive or negative " but it succeeds in what it sets out to do and is relatively harmless. If you're in the mood to laugh and not take anything to seriously you can do far worse than this book.

Imagine Agents #1

Oct 21, 2013

Still the overall package is enjoyable. Imagine Agents is a nice surprise and is further proof that the comic book industry could use more all ages books.

Marvel Knights: Spider-Man is a resounding success. Truly living up to the legendary imprint's legacy of creativity while offering a home for readers new and old alike.

Miracleman (2014) #1

Jan 20, 2014

Even with the heavy price tag and unnecessary filler, I feel Miracleman #1 is still worth picking up. All the stories are enjoyable and it's nice to have this piece of comic book history back in comic stores.

Sex Criminals #1

Sep 30, 2013

In this day and age where the words "mature themes" in a comic implies unnecessary sex, drugs, boobs and gore simply for the sake of shock value it's nice to see a comic that handles these themes in an actual mature fashion. Don't be fooled by the cover or the first two pages, Sex Criminals by Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky isn't an immature exploitation of sex and violence; it's a quirky, funny book about growing up that just happens to have a lot of sex in it.

Sex Criminals #2

Oct 28, 2013

The second issue of Sex Criminals is a bit lacking, but still continues to be a fun comic book with plenty of humour and great art. The lack of drama that was presented in Suzie's story disappointed me although I can see why one would find it an improvement over the previous issue; it just didn't impress me I suppose.

Sex Criminals #3

Nov 27, 2013

The book is still very funny; you won't see a lot of comics that have characters suddenly start singing a musical number, but with the word balloons replaced by the writer explaining to us why copyrighting songs is a bitch in any medium of entertainment. We also get plenty of visual puns like a dildo being thrown at someone's face with a poster that says poon in the background. GENIUS!

Sons of Anarchy #1

Sep 19, 2013

Sons if Anarchy is the type of comic I expressed weariness off in my first paragraph. Inaccessible to new readers and is entirely skippable for fans of the show. If you're a diehard fan of the TV show you may like this, and it has some solid art but I can't recommend it to anyone else.

Superior Foes of Spider-Man #1

Jul 11, 2013

The Superior Foes of Spider-Man is a great comic and one that you absolutely need to have on your pull list. It may not feature any of your favorite Spidey foes, but by the end of the issue, you'll definitely have a new favorite comic book.

The Returning #1

Mar 11, 2014

Maybe things will start to turn around in the second issue, but I honestly can't recommend picking up The Returning, even if you haven't read Revival (and if you haven't, you should!) and find the gimmick and art interesting, the lack luster writing and piss poor characterization " not to mention the weak ending " won't have you RETURNING (nyahaha) to the book anytime soon.

The Rocketeer / The Spirit: Pulp Friction #1

Aug 9, 2013

"Pulp Friction" is a great read and comes highly recommended. If you're a fan of both characters and their supporting casts then you'll love this and if you don't know them it's the perfect book to start with. Waid and Smith knock this one out of the park and I can't wait for the next issue.

X-Men: Gold #1

Nov 28, 2013

X-men: Gold is a solid one shot, but I'm not sure if it does the X-men's golden anniversary justice. It's not offensive, but it's not outstanding either and the need to be familiar with the X-men's rather confusing continuity is a bit of a turnoff.
