DIE!DIE!DIE! #2

Aug 23, 2018

A mature series such as this is a tough sell for readers and Die! Die! Die! is no different. For those that are inclined, skilled authors such as Kirkman learn how to master this shift and use the shocking violence to further build their fictional worlds and characters. Artistic choices of this nature, such as Kirkman and Gimple's choice to set Die! Die! Die!during the Obama administration, are not necessarily meant to shock readers but more to make us think about the world around us. Hopefully, Die! Die! Die! will continue with its promising first issues and use the graphic content to tell a great story.

A morally complex story that will only get more intense, I applaud the use of gritty action and story-telling to incorporate the driving fears on modern civilization.

Sex Criminals #17

Mar 15, 2017

I continue to be impressed with the quality output from Fraction. Well into its fourth arc the stories continue to be captivating and show promise for what's to come. Reminder that these are not for the faint of heart or easily offended but they're definitely worth a read if you're looking for something outside of the super hero norm.

Hit-Girl (2018) #7

Aug 22, 2018

At this point in the life of the both the Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl comics, the point seems to be nothing more than shocking and gratuitous violence. While this is fine for some (and even seemed novel in 2008 when the character debuted) it has since become stale and meaningless within the comic world. Even the characters in the book seem bored, spouting the same dialogue over and over again as if a young girl swearing is edgy in 2018. Where Kick-Ass has decided to move in a unique direction, Hit-Girl seems to take joy in remaining stagnant. So much more could be done with this character and one can only hope that the future sees more purpose for Mindy's adventures.

DC / Hanna-Barbera: Suicide Squad/The Banana Splits #1

Mar 29, 2017

Better than it has any right to be, the juxtaposition of 1970s characters and a modern team of criminals is funny and interesting in a way rarely found in DC comics. If you like humor, animals, and Amanda Waller this may just be the book for you.
