Long-time colorist Tom Luth may have retired, but Carrie Strachan does an admirable job in this issue. Her extensive color palette breathes life into all the people and animals. The tones are soft and pleasing to the eye, and nothing ever looks muddy or unclear. There's not much light sourcing aside from the dungeon scenes. Perhaps more shadowing would increase each scene's overall depth and better convey the reality, but her light touch fits the art's cartoony appearance. Read Full Review

The weight of the two previous series are definitely present here on top of all that these three issues have now done as well. It's a lot with all the various sides and while you can keep track of it relatively easy enough, the reality is that it's all going to come together in a big mess that Groo is going to fight or ruin in different ways. Evanier continues to have fun with the dialogue – and the bits with the bard and his daughter certainly are playful as that little side story unfolds – while Aragones just has so much going on with all of it that it's a thoroughly enjoyable piece to watch unfold. The series looks like it'll conclude in the way most Groo adventures do but that's a big part of its charm. Seeing how all of it is going toward that eventuality is a whole lot of fun. Whether this be a victim of its Sunday strip tone or the nature of Groo as a character, there is still a lot to be enjoyed about this series. For fans who desire an older, newstrip style book, this might be the closest you'll get on the spinner rack. Read Full Review
