As a small online community continues to look into Jim's connection with the Curse of the Hellspawn, the fervor around the world's "new messiah" begins to reach an apex.

Meanwhile, the Vatican makes a house call, taking the first steps in their efforts to test Jim's true origin. Sinner or Saint, the church has no intention of allowing his gifts to be used against them.

Plus: The final fate of someone in Jim's inner circle.

Comic Bastards - Jordan North Apr 5, 2013

The story is a pretty basic affair with some cool themes thrown in in which the new Hellspawn is approached by the Vatican who is vying for his endorsement after, as plain old Jim Downing, he’s tricked into pulling some rather extraordinary stunts on television. The idea that people see Jim, the new Hellspawn's, actions as possible being the work of god is gleefully ironic and a cool concept, as is the idea of having Jim in the public spotlight as Jim by day and out as a defunct general of hell fighting devils by night. McFarlane writes a moody and dank affair here, full of devil clowns and zombie wrist cutting girls and it’s all very Spawn. At the same time one that focuses more on characters and plot and atmosphere and it all feels new and yet familiar, but still very good. I’m glad I gave this character, this world, another chance. Unleash The Fanboy - Harrison Rawdin Apr 2, 2013

Spawn #230 is a solid issue with some rigid edges. But thanks to the twists and turns accompanied by some exceptional art this comic book comes recommended. Read Full Review

    Geekality - Worm VonChaos Apr 2, 2013

There is not a lot going on but a ton of talking and the story is kind of lackluster. The art by Kudranski is gritty yet detailed and the coloring is very dark and shadowy. I know this is the lead up for the arc but I hope it goes somewhere from here to save the story. I know this is still a fan favorite for many and I'm not a hater, I think I'm just stuck on the old Spawn stories! Read Full Review
