"CHASING SHADOWS"
THE CONCLUSION TO BOOK ONE! Rascal runs from the Redguard's clutches-but it will cost her more than she can imagine! Where can she go? Who can she trust? Are you sure? Because nothing seems certain any more. And by the end of this issue, nobody will be above suspicion!

    Graphic Policy - Geo N May 2, 2014

Mitten, Boyd and Mauer combine to create a visual experience in every issue and they continue their brilliant work in chapter six. I love how unique the art is in Umbral and how it looks like nothing I have seen before. The varying shades of purple make each sequence with the Umbral leap from the page. The writing mixes with the art harmoniously making this a comic book not to be missed. I can't wait to read the next chapter in Rascal's journey and if it's anything like the first one then we are in for a great ride. Read Full Review

The MacGuffin - Matt LeMaire Apr 28, 2014

With the close of its first arc, UMBRAL shows that it still has plenty of tricks up its sleeve and Johnston and Mitten continue to show that this is a great fantasy series with a compelling lead character in Rascal. Serving as our anchor in this adventure, we can't help but follow Rascal as she learns more about the past, the Oculus and the dangers she may have to face if she is to find resolution. This is great stuff, and now's the perfect time to catch yourself up, so get on it! Read Full Review

Bloody Disgusting - Lonnie Nadler May 1, 2014

Although this is the final chapter of Book One, its not at all anticlimactic. Its full of hooks for the future. Creators Johnston and Mitten have really just scratched the surface of this tale. This world seems to have all kinds of themes/genres running around together. Im fascinated to see how they will play collectively in Book Two starting in July 2014. Read Full Review

Comics Bulletin - Justin Giampaoli May 6, 2014

Well, the end of the first arc comes to a close (brief pause as the trade comes out next month, and then issue #7 hits in July!) as Rascal and company apparently head out of Strakhelm to deal with the Oculus, and I'm already excited to see more of this new world. Read Full Review

Comic Bastards - Steve Paugh Apr 30, 2014

The quiet at the end of the issue, and really throughout it, is deceptive, as the motley crew of gathered goodies, we are told, could be harboring, perhaps without any of their knowing, a rather unsavory sort; the kind that could get them killed. What that means is that, like its cast, even when this book is catching its breath, it continues to be a full-on adventure that I can't put down. With two fairly big deaths and a more focused direction, Umbral #6 proves why this series is a must on anyone's monthly list. Read Full Review
