When you spend so much time waiting for each issue to appear (the last issue of Astonishing X-Men appeared over three months ago), it's inevitable that a spotty chapter like this one is going to feel a little disappointing. And regardless of the erratic shipping schedule, this issue doesn't quite measure up to the standards set by Ellis and Bianchi in their first three issues. It's still an above-average superhero comic, and is enjoyable to an extent, but it's a bit of a letdown compared to what has come before. Read Full Review
It's all quite good, although it's hard not to feel, when reading "Astonishing X-Men", that "Uncanny X-Men" has truly been repositioned as the flagship title for the series. The story here is entertaining, but it doesn't feel important. "Astonishing X-Men" reminds me of DC's All-Star line, functioning as a creator showcase as much as a character one -" but given that we've got plenty of other X-Books to choose from, well, that's okay with me. Ultimately, I don't know if there has been a book more conflicting to me over the course of the last year. If it's at all possible to come to peace with the artwork, it should be interesting to re-read "Ghost Boxes" once it's inevitably collected. There is no question that the long delays between issues has sapped the story of any momentum, so I'm rather intrigued to see how it plays out when read in one sitting. Read Full Review
