John Cassaday provides the actors for Mr. Whedon and with Laura Martin the cinematography necessary for Joss Whedon's direction. Without Cassaday and the subdued colors, the realism in Mr. Whedon's writing would not be so perfectly conveyed. Read Full Review

John Cassaday is a great artist and while I'm always a bit nervous when he's announced as the regular artist of a title, as he has a somewhat spotty track record when it comes to sticking with the monthly deadlines, my fingers are crossed that he had enough lead time that this won't become an issue. I will say that his art looks fantastic, from the wonderfully moody cover image, to its delivery of the final sequence where we follow the Beast as he puts on a display of agility. This review seems more negative than perhaps it should. This issue is a vast improvement over the first in terms of writing, and Cassadays art, though unsuitable, is attractive. Josh Whedon's writing continues to soar and John Cassiday continues his incredible art in Astonishing X-Men #2. Now that the mutant cure has been brought to the public and a new villain Ord, who makes his first appearance in this series appears to be associated with this cure. I'm very intrigued right now and I'm loving it
