There was a lot of potential with this book. It could have been something heartfelt and great, but it only flounders and relies on winking, sarcastic humor to badly characterize a story where it is not appropriate. Give this a hard pass. Read Full Review
Black Widow puts a perfected Champions team into an absurd infiltration mission with the Hydra Youth Choir. Yes, this book has an absurd premise … absurdly awesome! Natasha easily justifies the choir infiltration but the big, tense question about spying vs. assassination remains. It's foremost in the teen heroes' minds. The Freelancers are back too, receiving a surprising amount of depth. The comparison to Mark Waid's Champions is inevitable, and this frankly blows that out of the water. Writer Derek Landy delivers a tour-de-force show. His command of the teens' characterization is impressive and he packs an incredible amount of action into a single (albeit oversized) issue without rushing anything. Not essential by any means but a fun storyline that gives some of my favourite characters some airtime! Half a star knocked off for the excessive price.
Really? I don't think Natasha would deal with that non-sense. If the kids can't handle the red room why dumb it down? It was an interesting story but to see Natasha act like a mother and not like a leader seemed out of character. I really did like the little twist they added and I love seeing how people are conforming to the new world order. But I think this story was kind of pointless.

Once again, Marvel has to make everything super silly and super young. I'm over it.
