This might just be with my copy, but all of the pages that show the darkened warehouse are dirtied with the inks from the opposite page. Whether it was an error with the printer or just the nature of printing predominantly black pages, it ultimately becomes a shame that this good looking book encountered such a mucky mishap. Aside from that and the aforementioned non-crossover problem, this book continues to be everything you'd want in a comic about an inspired young boy striving to be worthy of the name Spider-Man. One thing I absolutely HAVE to point out is how this and that last issue has pretty much nothing to do with Divided We Fall. Yeah, Cap mentions that the country is screwed up at the moment but it never goes further than that. If it didn't bother to have the banner on the side you wouldn't be able to tell either way. Even the end whilst teasing that he will potentially have more involvement from Captain America doesn't directly set up how Divided We Fall will conclude with Miles' being a part of it whatsoever. This was a good issue of Ultimate Spider-Man. The art was great, and Miles' first scenes with the web-slinging were fun. But I would have liked a deeper, more meaningful meeting with Aunt May, and some villain fights that aren't so predictable. But we can't always get what we want. Read Full Review

This was so close to perfect for me; however, this whole volume has been amazing. I love the callback to the famous Kitty Pryde quote in the opening, and how this is more than just a super-hero book. It's about a person who just happens to be a super-hero. There's lots of really cool things that happened in this issue that move Miles closer and closer to becoming Spider-Man here, which I left out or blacked out for obvious reasons. By the end of the issue, Miles Morales is no longer constrained, and he's now part of a bigger world. I like the inclusion of May, Gwen and MJ into Miles' life (and after having spent so much time with Peter Parker's family, selfishly I don't want to see them go), but given their heartache, I doubt they would encourage someone to take on the Spider-Man mantle. Regardless, Bendis now has all his pieces in order and the doors that can be opened for the storytelling have multiplied by several hundred. I just wish it wasn't in such an overt fashion. Despite my disappointment in many aspects of the story, Marquez's artwork serves it well. He does a great job of conveying the title character's tender age; even masked, it's clear he's a kid. I also enjoyed the action sequence at the end of the issue. Marquez depicts the villain as a fleet-footed mountain. The power and rage pop off of the page. Read Full Review
