X-MEN LEGACY is establishing its place in the post-Schism X-Men universe. Rogue is continuing to develop and we're seeing how this book will fit in alongside WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN. The setting may be a school but now we're seeing that contingency plans are in place if the school is attacked. Christos Gage's writing feels as if he's been writing these characters for a while and the mix of emotions, battles and humor is welcome to the series. David Baldeon's art is easily the best thing to happen to Legacy in a long time. His characters are energetic and expressive, and his fight scenes full of energy. The overall look fits in extremely well with Nick Bradshaw's work on Wolverine and the X-Men, to the point where it may be only a matter of time before Baldeon moves from one book to the other. Hopefully not before Legacy has more time to bask in the glow of his work. Read Full Review
Following my initial reunion with other parts of the X-Men family, this issue is a bit of a letdown. The collection of characters here -- Rachel Grey, Cannonball, Beast, Wolverine, Rogue and Iceman -- appeal to me most of the casts from the other books I've picked up. If my criteria were simply characters and potential, I'd be on board with this book going forward. At the very least, I'll be back for more next issue. Read Full Review
Overall, the shift in tone between Mike Carey's work on the title and that of Christos Gage is certainly dramatic, if only for the difference in the nature of each writer's work. Gage works best when he's got a fun, energetic concept at hand, and he lets himself get comfortable with his characters. He's got a ways to go before he has the same familiarity with the students and faculty of the Jean Grey School that he does with those of the Avengers Academy, but even in two issues he's come a long way.
