The Holy Awesome #1 does a great job of setting up a high-concept plot, establishing some very believable characters despite at least a few of them being quite unbelievable, and laying the foundation for what has the potential of being a really fun and interesting story. It just isn't that fun and interesting story right now. While ish #1 is fun and has some interesting aspects, those aspects needed to be tied together a bit more, and the ish should have been at least 4-5 pages longer. Again, I'm sure this has everything to do with the art design of the book, with that choice in design just not affording the page space required to get into the detail required for such a high concept, but I'm not going to let the design bring down the writing, and the intriguing premise and fun delivery of The Holy Awesome is enough to bring readers back to ish #2.
