The Weekly Crisis - Ryan Schrodt Jun 11, 2010

I'm a sucker for teen superheroes, particularly those that are presented in a complex and reverent manner. This issue takes cues from some of my favorite teen hero runs as it presents some of the most interesting and intriguing new characters that have come from Marvel in quite some time. Gage and McKone have a ridiculous amount of potential in this series, which says a lot considering this is already a wildly entertaining and finely crafted issue. The sky is the limit on this one and I highly suggest that you get in on the ground floor before its too late. Read Full Review

Overall, this issue was better than my expecations, and was a great read, and smoething I look forward to picking up next month when issue #2 comes out. The combination of the instructors and the new characters is tantalizing, and I loved how Gage brought things around and made it clear that the instructors he chose are connected to the theme of the issue and the reveal/concept, for the most part. I'm definitely intrigued and can't wait to read the next issue. Recommended! Read Full Review

It's a very encouraging start and a good concept. I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes from here. As I recall, that X-Men thing worked out ok. Read Full Review

I would definitely recommend this book; I was late jumping on this series, but was given access through "The Mighty World of Marvel" UK reprint (#35). Or alternatively, it's available in trade paperback form. Read Full Review

    Comic Book Bin - Herv St-Louis Jul 10, 2010

McKone is a solid and very good artist whose work shines netter when he has the right inker. Here he inks himself which makes for a happy medium. Cox is a great match and solidifies his work instead of propelling forward the fine lines that McKone is known for. The series seems interesting, but its one too many Avengers series for me, so Ill skip it in the future, not because its bad, but because Im not convinced it needs to exist. Read Full Review

    IGN - Jesse Schedeen Jun 9, 2010

For a book that I wasn't sure would capture my interest, Avengers Academy manages an impressive debut. So far Gage in working has succeeded with his new cast. The true test comes now as he begins to flesh out the various personalities and build towards a larger conflict. Read Full Review

Comic Book Revolution - Rokk Jun 11, 2010

Avengers Academy #1 is a solid debut issue. This title has plenty of potential. Hopefully, Gage will be able to tap the full potential of Avengers Academy. I would certainly recommend Avengers Academy to readers who enjoy teen super team titles. But, this title is more than just that. Readers who like classic super hero stories as well as readers who like stories that are a bit dark should also enjoy this title as well. Read Full Review

Comic Vine - Zack Freeman Jul 14, 2010

Right now, the best thing this book's got going for it is Finesse's unique characterization and the routes that the Academy's potentially super-villainous connections could go. I've enjoyed Gage's writing in the past, so I trust he's got some aces up his sleeve. And it's, of course, still early in the series to judge this book without giving it a fair shake, but I think there's going to have to be some twists, and soon, to make this title stand out from books like Young Allies, Young Avengers and even Runaways. Comic Book Resources - Doug Zawisza Jun 9, 2010

This is a fine addition to the Heroic Age, but it's not the most memorable comic of the bunch by any means. There's a half dozen new characters here that will surely be someone's favorites someday, but for now, they're just being introduced. Where they go from here defines how successful this first issue truly is. Read Full Review

I'm still going to continue reading Avengers Academy because Tigra is love, but I can't really give a high recommendation for anybody with a passing fancy in superheroes. Read Full Review

In the end there is something I believe was supposed to be a cliff-hanger, and in another teams hands this series could really go somewhere, but I would suggest all interested readers stay far, far away. Read Full Review
