Spider-Man is the worst neighbor EVER! There are always crazy villains and property damage and drama and...and he CATCHES the villains. And he tries to fix the damage and he helps carry your groceries and actually that property damage keeps the rents down. You know what? Spider-Man is the best neighbor ever and this book will give you a closer look at Spider-Man's (and Peter Parker's) neighborhood than any book ever. Also, it wouldn't be a Spider-Man adventure without a threat that could destroy not only Spider-Man, but all his neighbors. Superstar writer TOM TAYLOR (X-MEN RED, ALL-NEW WOLVERINE, Injustice) and rising art star JUANN CABAL (AL more

There’s a lot of gears turning that make this a pretty great #1. As I said, plenty of aspects for all kinds of fans make this easy to recommend. Based on the plot alone, the issue probably wouldn’t be enough if not for the back-up, but the excellent voices are where the book really shines anyway. Except for some spots in the second half, the art solidifies the fun, adventurous attitude of the story. If you’re like me and the wait between Spencer’s issues is just a little too much, this will surely hold you over. Pick it up. Read Full Review

If youre looking for a solid read from a great creative team, give Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1 a try. Im in for whatever this team has up next. Its nice to have a continuity-light Spider-Man comic with strong writing and good art. Im not sure how many adventures Spider-Man can have around his neighborhood, but Im sure Taylor can make the most of them. Maybe at some point, someone will even give the webslinger a churro. I've added Friendly to my pull list, not because Amazing Spider-Man doesn't provide me the thrills I demand in my Spidey tales"it does. But I have a feeling Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is going to be the book that lets us get to know Peter Parker even more than we already do, somehow, by letting the guy be a person instead of an icon. The art in both stories works really well. The first story has a lighter, more positive tone and the art reflects that. The second story is more ominous is how it builds tension up to the final reveal, so the use of shadows throughout is perfect. Great job to both artists. Read Full Review

FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN #1 is laid back, almost to a fault. However, Tom Taylor still delivers a very enjoyable book from start to finish. I definitely recommend it to Spidey fans, since it's got some classic Peter Parker moments in it. Juann Cabal's beautiful art makes up for any slights I may have with the story. Read Full Review

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1 is that kind of book that you would recommend to readers who want superhero stories where the importance of the hero is what's behind the mask. Fixing damages, carrying your groceries, or just being a friendly neighbor matters. This creative team gets that, and I can't wait to see more of what this Spidey has to offer the people who surround him. Read Full Review

Not all of Spidey’s adventures have to be sprawling epics or have world-ending stakes. And it is that understanding that makes Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1 such a charming read. Tom Taylor, Juann Cabal, and Nolan Woodard zoom in on Peter’s new building and the (relatively) normal people living there to show how Peter keeps being a hero even when Thanos or the Green Goblin isn’t around. A welcome change of pace from the faster-paced, more theatrical main title. Read Full Review

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1 is a great start to Tom Taylor's run on this series. Right away Taylor capturing what makes Spider-Man and Peter Parker compelling as characters. The world around them is properly developed with the back-up story providing an impactful note to leave fans wanting to come back for more. All of this is brought to life by Juann Cabal and Marcelo Ferreira artwork that fit the tone of their assigned stories. This book doesn't provide the kind of madcap vibe I had hoped it. Sure, there are a couple of surprises to contend with, but everything seems so nice; it is almost like a Pleasantville version of Spider-Man. Spidey gets a small-scale title to showcase his littlest, most retail problems. Like, say, alien refugees in his building and ominous family health crises. The ongoing plot hooks are a bit ridiculous (and lacking in novelty), but the most important thing, the TONE of the book, is perfect. This issue breathes terrific life into Peter's neighborhood and makes his relationship with it incredibly endearing.

Strangely enough, I kinda liked this. I only picked it up on a whim because I have not been fond of Spencer’s ASM at all but I did enjoy Chip’s PPTSSM while it lasted. The first story in this issue was pretty darn good - I enjoyed the characters and liked how Pete’s life was at the forefront. The backup story was...well, as many have already said, this has been done before so we will see where it goes. But I liked this well enough to give a couple more issues a try and added it to my pull list immediately after reading it.

    Amazing Psycamorean Jan 9, 2019

This was a really great first issue. From the first two pages, it's certain that Tom Taylor understands Spider-Man and Peter Parker. The bulk of this issue is Peter Parker just helping his neighbors and it works well as long as you like Peter Parker. The actual plot involving this neighbor of his and her connections to a supervillain isn't established until about halfway through the issue, and on that front, not a ton happens. But we get introduced to the supporting cast and they all seem okay so far. I'm sure they'll be developed more. We also get more mileage out of Peter being roommates with Boomerang and it's great. The back up story is what will be talked about, though. It's a short story about Peter and MJ having breakfast and then Au more

Exactly what I've expected from this book - a more street-level story, compared to the main book. And Tom Taylor perfectly manages to capture this whole setting. Spidey definitely reads like himself, and the background characters are not too bad either. Cabal's artwork is great as well, it really suits the tone of the book. The backup story will probably be the main story of this book moving forward, and while it's not new, I am very sure it will be interesting to see where it goes from here. Overall, a very good start. Can't remember the last time all Spider-books were this good.

For a first issue it was pretty good! Tom Taylor shows is that he knows what’s going on in the other Spider-Man book unfortunately not fully convinced that he has Peter Parker down, well more like Spider-Man. I know that Tom can write some funny dialogue still have to see it in this book. While the funny dialogue that he did write some were more of an “eye roll” moment. Some of the funny dialogue landed and had a good chuckle. He does a good job at showing us the good heart in peter. Slightly confused on why Peteris carryingup his neighbors grocery’s though. Also confuse on the cliffhanger but hey cliffhangers can be confusing. The art amazing job by Juan.

I thought this was a good start to another Spider-Man book that sets the tone for Tom Taylor to focus on local crimes rather than any big, end-of-the-world scenarios. That said, the story line itself doesn't feel all that interesting. Taylor nails the pathos of Spider-Man but not the story. Juann Cabal has art that I'm conflicted about for it feels very similar to Mikel Janin. The backup story hooked me in but I expect there to be no consequence when all is said and done. Overall, pretty good but some noticeable problems.

Yes it's fun but nothing really original. The save is even hard to believe. All the rest have a deja vu taste.
I kind of expect something more. And Comon they put MJ/Peter Back just yet & Bam May have another health issue ... Sure !

Cover - More a IDW kid comics cover, or a Ultimate one. Not in link. 1/2
Writing - Both story aren't bad but I think there is something missing. 2/3
Arts - Both have good & less good part. There too it's lacking of something. 2/3
Feeling - Not what I wanted to read. 0/2

    THE GOOD:

-Okay, I wish the backup story could've been the whole issue. It really, really hit me in the feels. This was one of those rare times the backup was better than the main story.

    THE BAD:

-Really didn't like the art. It felt stiff and lifeless.

-This series didn't feel like anything special to me. It doesn't give me any reason not to save the money and just buy the main ongoing Spidey series.

-The humor in this issue just felt really off. Like I was supposed to laugh, but never did, because nothing was really that funny.

-I believe it was Joss Whedon who said, "It's no fun to watch a movie about someone who already knows it's a wonderful life." This was the same th more
