Herc’s had a busy time recently. He saved all of reality, got depowered in the process, moved out to Brooklyn and became a local hero. Although he’s no longer a god and shows no interest in reclaiming his place in Olympia, that doesn’t mean that Olympia’s forgotten about him. A figure from Herc’s past has come to hunt him down, and his intentions for what to do once he finds him remain unclear. Does Olympia have it out for its former son? Written by Marvel Masters Greg Pak and Fred Van Lente and drawn by artist extraordinaire Mike Grell, HERC 6.1 offers an awesome jumping-on point for more

Sadly, if anything turns readers off this issue, its going to be the artwork. Mike Grell would seem to be the perfect match for this title, but the pages arent at all up to his usual standard. The faces are weak, the poses are strange, and only engaging thing about this issues villain comes through some impressive color work. For a legend like Grell, you expect far more than we get in this issue. Its a shame that this issue isnt sharper, because otherwise it does precisely what you would want it to do. Read Full Review

Comic Book Resources - Greg McElhatton Sep 3, 2011

It's a real shame that "Herc," like the "Incredible Hercules" that preceded it, is wrapping up soon. This issue is another firm reminder that this is a comic that mixes humor and drama together well. Pak and Van Lente are able to take the mythical and the modern and make them work well together, and while I never know entirely what to expect from their scripts, it's almost always excellent. In a better world, these comics would be best-sellers. I know we've got a few months to go, but it stands to be said: I'll miss you, "Herc." Read Full Review
