Comic Vine - Mat 'Inferiorego' Elfring Sep 18, 2013

X-O MANOWAR is the perfect example of rebooting a franchise and making it worthwhile for new readers and old fanboys. Venditti is doing fantastic things with this story. Each story keeps getting better and better. Bringing back Alexander Dorian to this issue to "reason" with Aric is fantastic, since he was such a great part of this series in prior issues. Moose's colors, especially on the opening scene, are wonderful. Venditti, Garbett, and Baumann are one heck of a creative team. Read Full Review

Fortress of Solitude - Byron Hendricks Oct 2, 2013

Even though X-O Manowar #17 hardly contains any action scenes whatsoever, especially if you compare it to #16, it creates the perfect setup for what lies ahead. But this just goes to show that even without violence, action and gore, X-O Manowar is still a well put together read. This current run of X-O Manowar showcases some exceptional talent and it will leave you wanting wanting to get hold of the past issues! Read Full Review

    IGN - Benjamin Bailey Sep 18, 2013

Lee Garbett does some of his best work in this issue. There's not a ton of big, alien-powered action in this issue, but all those smaller character moments look incredible. Just look at the expressions, the body language, and tone Garbett renders into every page. X-O Manowar #17 looks damn fine, probably one of Valiant's best looking books to date. Hopefully, Garbett will still be around when the crap hits the fan because it'll be nice to see him handle all that violent, bloody action, too. Read Full Review

Analog Addiction - Jideobi Odunze Sep 22, 2013

You can really tell that there's a difference in worlds when you see how Volo and Tammus go from the fields to a modern setting, seeing Markets and food openly available while they drag their feet in the dirt to work for their own food. Aside from this you see how well all the characters are drawn, and how much detail is put into Aric's X-O Manowar armor when it comes on and off. Things are about to get intense and given what we have seen so far, Lee Garbett should be able to deliver on the graphic nature this story is about to take on. Read Full Review

We The Nerdy - Sebastian Mejia Sep 26, 2013

And then there's Lee Garbett's art. This book has looked gorgeous ever since he took over as the primary artist, and this issue is no exception. The art is a delight to look at, and Garbett's facial work really shines throughout. Whether it's the look of contemplative peacefulness on Aric's face as he admires a familiar species of bird or the conviction in his father's eyes when he insists that he stopped sucking his thumb at the age of 3, Garbett manages to inject a level of personality into all of the characters that is truly great to behold. As usual, Garbett's art is made all the better by Moose Baumann's colors that tie everything together nicely. Read Full Review

These last few issues have been leading and building towards the upcoming Valiant Universe event Unity, where it appears that the rest of the Valiant U are going to have to try and stop Aric and his X-O Manowar armor and its going to be difficult to choose whose side youre on. Aric is a likable guy, even if hes a little bit… behind the times. X-O is one to watch and the upcoming Unity is really going to change and shape the new Valiant Universe for years to come. Make sure you check out this fantastic series that seems to be flying under most peoples radars. Read Full Review

Unleash The Fanboy - Russell Johnson Sep 17, 2013

X-O Manowar is setting up for the UNITY event and that explains the titles lull in action as the Valiant Universe is set to explode. But don't be fooled into thinking it's lesser in value. Venditti his hitting all notes in X-O and it still packs a punch without packing literal punches. X-O Manowar is leading the way in uniting all of the Valiant Universe and it continues to get better with each issue. Read Full Review

    Comics: The Gathering - kanchilr1 Sep 17, 2013

X-0 Manowar feels as if it is headed towards a larger conflict. In comics which continue to be published each and every month, the feeling that something is coming lends itself towards great storytelling. Readers can smell the passion that both Garbett and Venditti have for the character in the quality of work provided on the comic. Read Full Review

Okay, so this is a dip in quality, but a needed one. X-O Manowar still happens to be one of the most solid comic books on the shelves in your local comic book store. A three for this book is like a five for most books in the business. Read Full Review
