Angel #2 builds off of a stellar debut while adding at times subtle and at others not-so-subtle new layers to the mythos, the supporting cast, and Angel himself. Read Full Review
There's still a fair amount of brooding in Angel, of course. That's a key part of the character after all. It's balanced out by this unsettling story and an increasing cast of supporting characters. Writer Bryan Edward Hill is crafting not just a great Angel story, but a great supernatural story. Anyone can pick this book up and dig right in...or I guess I could go for the pun and say they can sink their teeth in. In any case, this is super accessible and entertaining. It's a solid vampire detective book. Read Full Review
Angel #2 is a perfect issue that balance Angelus and Angel, with the poetry of the former when needed and the one-liners for the latter to distinguish the two, building out the two halves of the character. As a series, I am buckled in for the rest ofAngel and with the crossover event with theBuffyseries coming, I'm more than ready. Read Full Review
Angel is a monstrous success. All the laughs, the scares, and feels are here. The mystery is great, the flashbacks interesting, and the terrors terrific. I love the addition of a familiar face in this issue and am on fire to see what's to be done with this character. The visuals are great, continuing the recognizable faces from the show and starting some new terrors with this series. If you've never partaken of Angel, this is the time to take a bite. Recommended. Angel #2 is a tremendous follow-up issue. Bryan Edward Hill sets the course for this series, focusing in on social commentary this issue. This is not your 2000's Angel, and I'm more than okay with that. Read Full Review
Angel continues to change just enough to make the reboot worthwhile and intriguing while retaining the original series' core elements and feel. Read Full Review
Hill, Melnikov, and the rest are doing compelling work here, building a supernatural mystery of the type that the TV shows Angel Investigations might take as a case and slowly assembling the shows core cast. Despite all their exceptional work, however, something is still missing--possibly a connection to the larger universe, maybe the history that these characters had pre-reboot in the Buffy universe. Perhaps the upcoming crossover between the Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer comics will remedy that. Read Full Review
Other storylines in the comic continue the flashback of Angel siring the new vampire Marius and quite a few pages are devoted to the unseen enemy attacking young victims through social media and text messaging by offering an understanding his victims aren't finding elsewhere. No doubt this is the looming threat Angel will need to solve, but personally I'm looking forward to seeing the handsome man save Fred from the monsters. Worth a look. Read Full Review
The art is better than most of the work you see in licensed books, with a very stylized edge that brings Angel and his Sunnydale compatriots to life. If you're a fan of Angel, and the Buffyverse in general, this book comes highly recommended. Read Full Review
If you weren't sold by the first issue of Angel, this second issue gives you much more confidence in investing where this book takes us. Some things are the same, though equally there is just as much new about Angel's story. If you thought it wouldn't be the same dark tale, they also made sure we knew that the dangers will hit you just as hard. Read Full Review
I'm glad that this series is getting its footing. So glad to see Fred. I'm certainly enjoying this story as a mega fan of Angel, so that's something.
