Left in a near-catatonic state following the events in Buffy Season 8, Angel will need a seriously rude awakening if he's to make amends for his ill-conceived deeds. Enter rebel Slayer with a cause--Faith Lehane. Together they'll have full access to the Watcher files and opportunities to make amends for all they've done . . . and will do.

The Fandom Post - Maria Selke Sep 26, 2011

This was a fabulous start to the series, and I love the fact that it will run in parallel to Buffy season 9. Even if you missed out on the events of Buffy's season 8 run, though, you will be able to pick up and enjoy this comic. There is enough backstory filled in to keep you from confusion, and you'll love the story. Read Full Review

Comic Book Resources - Kelly Thompson Sep 1, 2011

As someone deeply familiar with this universe, it's hard to know how well this first issue might work for a new reader. I think enough is there to make it new reader friendly, but this is dense stuff with a lot of complicated history behind it, so that's always a bit of a tightrope to walk. For existing fans however, this is a hell of a start to a new series. With an incredible creative team in place and Whedon's rich universe to play in, this issue is a slam-dunk. Read Full Review

Major Spoilers - Matthew Peterson Sep 2, 2011

This issue sets us off on an intriguing adventures, shows us the characters flaws rather than monologuing about them, gives us a quest (one that is both wacky and touching at the same time) and an enemy to overcome, doing everything that #1 issue is supposed to do. Read Full Review

Honestly, if you're a fan of Buffy or Angel, you're going to want to pick this up. Period. Angel & Faith takes off at the end of season eight of Buffy. For those of you that were unaware, there were only seven seasons on TV. The eighth season was done via comic series after the show was canceled. If you haven't read the eighth season yet go read it. Now. There were some huge developments. Quite frankly, if you haven't read the eighth season yet, you're not going to have any idea what's going on in Angel & Faith at all. Considering how epic it looks to turn out, you might want to give it a try. Read Full Review

Entertainment Fuse - Tim Vinton Sep 4, 2011

The highest praise I can give for Angel & Faith #1 is this: It feels like a continuation of the show I loved. Angel and Faith are really back to continue their adventures and I could not be happier. Obviously, if you are not already a fan of the shows or the previous comics, then you are not going to have the same appreciation as a fan. Unfortunately, Angel & Faith #1 assumes that readers already have a fair idea of who these characters are and what their world is like. However, if you're willing to invest the time into finding these things out for yourself (All Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel episodes can be found on Netflix Instant Streaming and Buffy Season 8 is available in trade paperback form from Dark Horse Comics), then you'll find a comic that is even greater than the potential it represents. Let's go to work. Read Full Review

    cxPulp - Walt Kneeland Sep 4, 2011

This will likely appeal most to those who've followed Buffy Season 8, though if you watched the tv series and don't mind knowing you've missed a "season," this isn't a bad place to jump in (or if you're a fan of Faith or Angel and feel like checking out a new series co-starring the two). I understand this series will complement the new series, Buffy Season 9, though the two series will be viable independent of one another. Though I'm not entirely convinced I'm going to follow the whole thing as single issues--the $2.99 price point being held is a great step in convincing me to plan on it. Read Full Review

    Comic Vine - Tony 'G-Man' Guerrero Aug 31, 2011

This marks the beginning of the next phase in the Buffy universe. Finding out what Angel and Faith have been up to since Season 8 ended. Angel has always had to live with the bad things he did as Angelus and the end of Season 8 added more evil deeds under his belt. Angel has a lot to atone for. Whether or not that will be the direction of this series remains to be seen. Christos Gage captures the voice of the characters. They all sound and act as Buffy fans would expect. Rebekah Isaacs' art captures the look (and essence) that we've come to expect in the series. The ending promises some big things coming and it's clear that this won't be a simple walk in the park for Angel and Faith. Read Full Review

    IGN - Jesse Schedeen Aug 31, 2011

All of these qualities, coupled with a nice little twist at the end, ensure that this series should have little problem holding the attention of Buffy fans. With luck, the actual Season 9 book can manage as strong a start. Read Full Review

    Razorfine - Alan Rapp Sep 7, 2011

This first issue isn't awful, but it's pretty disappointing. Season Nine, the first full comic season with all the characters under one publisher's banner, begins not with a bang but a whimper. Hit-and-Miss. Read Full Review

Definitely not new reader friendly, but as a long-time fan, this was great. It was a little more serious than the flagship title, but it was great. I am truly loving the art so far and I think the characterizations are spot on. Let's hope it stays that way.
