Action Comics #1064 begins the first part of the House of Brainiac storyline with a huge bang. The issue lives up to the title's name as we get a ton of high-octane action as Brainiac unleashes his army of robot drones and Czarnian warriors for Superman and his allies to fight. Readers won't need to know too much about what's happened prior to this as the issue is very much a jumping-on point for returning readers. The biggest star of this comic has to be the art team of Rafa Sandoval's art and Alejandro Sanchez' colors. Action Packed! Got to start by saying, wow Sandoval does an amazing job drawing Superman. Loving the art.

Also is this the first Williamson event that might be good? This is a really good start. We have intense action, twists, espionage, nice establishment of 'mini bosses' and just cranked the threat way up high. This is an issue that will get your attention.

Action Comics #1064 explodes onto the scene as the opening chapter of DC's "House of Brainiac" event as Joshua Williamson’s script crackles with tension from the very first page.

The visuals by artist Rafa Sandoval & colorist Alejandro Sánchez shine throughout the issue, but their work truly takes flight (pun intended) during Superman's "morning workout" sequence. Here, we're treated to a picturesque scene with Clark flying over a body of water in beautiful splash page. For readers who might not be die-hard followers of every Superman family member, the opening pages also serve as a helpful catch-up on the who’s who of Metropolis via a day-in-the-life montage of Lois Lane getting to enjoy her one day off per year.

Williamson expertly weaves in glimpses of the extended family, reminding us of their unique personalities and powers, all while seamlessly setting the stage for the impending chaos. Together, the first few pages offer wonderful moments of peace before the action kicks into high gear once Brainiac’s plan is put into motion. After that, the story starts to fire on all cylinders up until the final page.

This first issue serves as a thrilling opening salvo to the "House of Brainiac" event. Williamson laid the groundwork for several intriguing plot lines & left me wanting to read more of the story throughout the various tie-ins. The stakes for Superman and his loved ones couldn't be higher, and the tension is palpable throughout. The art team’s action-packed panels perfectly complement Williamson's script, making Action Comics #1064 a must-read.

While the tone and story is different from PKJ's Warworld Saga event in Action Comics, the scale is the same, and everything for me works. Superman and Lex Luthor works, the story is so interesting, the pacing is great, the art is fantastic. This is Rafa Sandoval's best work so far. I love the Superman family dynamic.

Overall, this is a strong start, and I hope it ends on a high note.

Williamson’s outstanding Superman work continues here with a superb launch to another exciting storyline. He’s the best writer to tackle Superman and his expansive cast of characters in the last several decades!

Good start! The House of Brainiac looks like it will be one of DC's better events

This is a good start to the event, though I won't be collecting the side spin-off titles. Brainiac is always a good villain. I like how it starts as a normal day and then all hell breaks loose. He even infiltrated Super Corp. who knows how long ago. Let's hope it keeps up at this level.

Not too bad for the starting chapter. The start reminded me a little of the average classic story where it's an average day in Metropolis, but danger arrives soon enough. Otherwise it was okay. Not bad, but not really thrilling either.
In truth I wasn't even very excited for this story though. I've never liked Lobo and a story featuring a bunch of his people isn't something I'm rushing to the shop to get. And usually Brainiac stories like this are my jump off point. In 2008 after Johns' Brainiac story I knew I'd had enough and wouldn't buy another new Superman book for 8 years. And I have no intention to even check out Absolute power, so I'll be passing on Williamson's books that tie in to it, and won't be wasting $5 on Action issues by Gail Simone and a romance novelist. And word is after Absolute power aside from their attempt to suckle off Marvel's current Ultimate line's success (which as experience has shown, will not last) that DC has "big new things" ahead. And experience with those kind of announcements show it's nothing that will help save them. So I'll probably be out, and I really hate that since Superman is all I get by DC anymore.
One thing about this issue is that the Super family all gets caught in this, except Jon. And note no one even cares. I haven't heard one single reader ask where he was (Probably texting the pink haired nerd while he's in the tub again). And that's because NO ONE cares about him anymore. Way to ruin your first truly promising new character in years DC. No one cares that he's not evenm mentioned in this issue and they won't care if he never appears again. Kind of sad fate when you look back at how intriguing a character he was only 8 years ago.
As for this story, I already plan to read it as I've preordered all the issues. Sadly though as to whether I'll continue to read any Superman books after it's over is completely unknown at the moment. more

I could have really gone without the 8 pages at the start of the issue of Lois Lane being abrasive and insufferable, but other than that the issue was an ok start to the over all arch. Get ready for this book to really turn to shit when Gail Simone and Rainbow Rowell write it starting in issue 1067...Ugh it's going to be a painful slog...

Some selection of "super star writers" so far, eh? Jason Aaron has always sucked and Simone's best Superman work was 3 stars at most 20 years ago (and she was actually better then). Who will they get for #1070-1072? Bendis?
