This is about as good as an anniversary issue can get while still progressing the storyline. There are fun homages, meta-nods, and cool reveals that should satiate even the more rabid of Superman fans. The art throughout this volume is top notch well worth the price of admission. Read Full Review
With one of the larger mysteries revealed, 'Superman Reborn' has kicked into high gear with Action Comics #975. Jurgens and Dini both bring even more emotion to the story with their sympathetic and angry Mxyzptlk and Mahnke and Churchill displayed him that way very well. It will be interesting to see how Mr. Oz will play into the story and what exactly he's got planned for Superman as the story continues next week. For now, though, Action Comics #975 was not only a great chapter in an intriguing story, but an excellent anniversary issue for the world's oldest superhero. Read Full Review

And how does this all lead to the origins of the Supermen? And who is Oz? Does Mxyzptlk being here make my guess of Vyndktyvx more likely? Will Mxy be the villain for the rest of this arc? Good stuff all around. I liked the art throughout. Churchill doesn't seem as precise here but he does a good job aping others takes on Mxy. Read Full Review
So" this is the book we've all been waiting for, that has been hyped all week" we finally know the human Clark Kent is and I have to say that the surprise took me back. Read Full Review
Still, Action Comics #975 does feel like a payoff for those who've stuck with the complexities of this character for the last few years and offers a mostly satisfying explanation for one of the strangest mysteries in superhero comics today. It's also a testament to Jurgens' continued mastery of this character and this universe, keeping the focus on how the Man of Steel impacts not only the DC universe but a host of heroes and villains who see him as a leader and fiend. Action Comics #975 is an over-sized issue, and it's safe to say you certainly get your money's worth, with two great stories by two great writers, accompanied by sequentials from two outstanding artistic teams. Despite a couple of bumps in the road, Action Comics #975 is a solid second chapter in the "Superman Reborn" story, primarily because it succeeds in delivering on the mystery of the doppelganger Clark's identity that's been brewing since issue #957. However, Jurgens is sure to leave you wanting more, with plenty of questions, including the mysteries surrounding Mr. Oz, still left unanswered for the time being. Read Full Review
Despite revealing the identity of Clark Kent in the main story, this back up is the better of the two. It is a good idea to split up the story lines into distinct stories, but it could've been more effective with better pacing. Perhaps, a extending the tension of the reveal through a harder search and let the back up stand on its own in a separate issue. Overall, the story line maintains the reader's interest, but the execution is uneven. Read Full Review
Well, we certainly get a reveal in this issue and while I'm not totally on board with it because it doesn't make sense to the timeline that we've been given, I'm sure a lot of people are all happy about it because it brings a legacy character back onto the page. Personally, I feel that it cheapens the story overall, but with that I had a good time reading this issue and I thought that the art looked great the whole way through. Read Full Review
Action Comics #975 was a fun comic book even as we get some answers while adding more questions to what we already know. The heavy focus on Mr. Mxyzplk and why he would turn out to be the fake Clark Kent was a necessary story to be told. It at least puts a stamp on the whole fake Clark Kent mystery and gave us more insight into Mr. Oz's role in the story. There are still some execution problems with the general concept of 'Superman Reborn' that need to be solved. If not this arc may end up doing more bad than good for the long-term future of the Superman franchise. Read Full Review
Detailing the back-up would spoil the big reveal so I'll avoid doing so, but Dini has a far bigger sandbox to play in, making for the more entertaining portion of this issue. Read Full Review
Excellent issue. I understand how the villain who is finally revealed as DoppelClark can be a polarizing character choice to many readers considering to his long, yet underwhelming past as a legacy character in the Superman rogues gallery. But the backup story written by Paul Dine & drawn by Ian Churchill really sells it. The backup story is perhaps the all-time best backup take I've ever read because although it's limited in it's size & content, it flawlessly delivers a heartbreaking tragedy for such a classic character who's been there ever since the Golden Age. Action #975 is the best single issue Superman story I've ever read in my whole entire life.
Awesome read!!
Great issue of Action, that continues one of the best storylines that I have read featuring Superman. I am excited to see how the revelations made in Superwoman tie into Action and Superman. The twisted also was someone that I did not think of or even expect to show up anytime soon.
That was amazing. Paul Dini's back up story makes everything clear. It was a great twist. Looking forward to next issues.
Creepy Clark Kent all of a sudden makes sense. Well played mr.mxylptlk
This issue was fantastic. The reveal of who Creepy!Kent was totally caught me off guard but made a lot of sense in retrospect. I honestly felt for 'em by the end of this issue, something I wouldn't have thought possible with the revealed character.
So far this crossover has me extremely hyped through two issues. Can't recommend enough!
The event started slowly but now, it gets way more interesting! I really enjoyed the revelation of second Clark Kent and I wasn't disappointed at all. Also, this issue is specially well written, constructed and paced. As an anniversary special, the issue is over-sized and the second story is also great and intriguing. It's one of the best issues of the series!
YES LET'S GO
At last the revelation! It was completely unexpected and it didn't disappoint me at all. But the issue itself is also excellent and the form chosen (separating revelation and explanation) is very judicious. The art is gorgeous, specially those Doug Mahnke fighting scenes.
Damn I feel relief and I am excited as well.We finally learn who is Creepy Kent. It's a really great twist most people won't expect who he is.My only problem is that we got only the twist and the answer we didn't get any clues or answers to other questions. But we got a great cliffhanger.I am so excited about this story like a kid waiting for his vacation to begin.
SCORE: 8.2
I won't be a jackass and spoil the reveal like another user did, but I did not guess it and if I didn't get the hints provided at end of Supe #18 I wouldn't have had a clue at all. I like this arc alot, but I am not a fan of Mahnke's art and I do feel this and Supe #18 felt a little padded to make two issues, but it's a minor complaint. Jurgens and Tomasi have brought Superman back and his titles are among the best Rebirth titles. Oh, to the user who spoiled the surprise in their review - any true comic lover knows that is the #1 cardinal sin!
The Paul Dini backup was more exciting than the main story by Jurgans. Manhke art was very nice this issue
Manhke draws some amazing *********** in this story. Its easily the highlight of Superman Reborn. Fun Fact, he drew Superman for years on Man of Steel with Shultz
it’s good to finally have the Mystery of the ‘Clark Kent’ Doppleganger solved!!
just wish i didn’t have to disrupt the order of my collection just to complete the story. but that’s neither here nor there.
it IS engaging even if the main story feels heavily spread out just to fill up pages.
and Superman comes off as pretty dense too. that aside, the (SPOILER WITHHELD) reveal was very cool!!!
i have to say with how short both this issue's main story and Superman issue #18 feel....
it feels to me that they just took one comic’s worth of story and spread it across two separate titles?
and as neat as the idea for Paul Dini’s back-up story was, i really wish we could hav more
