‘Shadows of the Bat' soars into its penultimate issue, bringing all the pieces together in an awesome character-driven action-packed issue for the Bat-family that also teases some potentially intriguing long-term storylines, including a possible future for Arkham Tower itself. As we get close to the finale of "Shadows of the Bat," Detective Comics #1057 provides the reader some surprises as well as some exciting execution in the writing and art from the creative teams on both stories. The Tower has been a great source of action and visual storytelling. Through 8 issues or so, it backed that format up with a tight, engaging plot. The introduction of Scarecrow and later Batman has read like an easy out to a long arc, though. The once slow-burning thriller has devolved into a run-of-the-mill if slick superhero punch-up. Leading into the final chapter of the "Shadows Of The Bat weekly event Mariko Tamaki and Amancay Nahuelpan deliver strong developments in Detective Comics #1057. Batman being part of the story and working alongside the Batman Family was all great to see. This chapter of the main story is much tighter than previous chapters, but the sudden switch from a snail's pace to breakneck speed doesn't do the comic any favors. The art is strong, but without an equally strong story behind it, I don't think this issue is worth buying, especially not at this price point. The backup feature is pretty good, though, but I recommend waiting to see if DC puts out a "House of Gotham trade paperback if you really want to read it. Read Full Review

I admit it, I'm more of a Marvel reader, I found this issue interesting, the art not so much. Red Hood's quotes were great and the ending left me intrigued. Fulfilled for me.

good story bad art

Well, Batman is once more earning his place on the title. I think we've had enough of the Scarecrow for a while though. And next time how about he look more like he does in the House of Gotham backup stories huh? I hate the look he's had over the past year. Otherwise it was a pretty decent issue. the tower saga was in all pretty decent. I've read a lot better, but also a lot worse.
But it's the "House of Gotham" saga I really was looking forward to more of. It looks like things are about to wrap up in a final confrontation between Batman and the unnamed star of this epic. It looks like a promising conclusion ahead.

I wish art wasn't so insignificant

This was one of the roller coaster rides in this series. Not bad, horrible art but the capture of the batfamily was much better than the nonsense in issue 1032.

Ok book. Both stories move along just fine but lack some cohesion and jump around to much.

This was slightly better than last issue, but still pretty fucking lame. I'm really ready to move on here.

Some major developments for Pyscho-Pirate… despite his status as a Crisis-level villain.

This is as dumb as Darkseid with his legs crossed on a futon.

… oh wait, they did that too.

One of the better issues of this arc. That’s not necessarily a good thing though.

Still a garbage story that drags on and on, just to spotlight female supporting characters. Skip this series while Tamaki is writing it.
