"The Flash Year One" continues! As our hero picks up the pieces from his disastrous defeat at the hands of the Turtle, the rise of the Rogues in Central City gives the Flash renewed resolve. But Barry is still learning to master his abilities, and while an experienced speedster might know how to outrun a gun, this time he may not be so lucky...

VerdictI am confident that The Flash #73 will stand out as a landmark issue. We get to witness the beginnings of Barry and Iris' relationship which is not only a milestone in The Flash mythos, but also a fundamental piece of DC history. Plus, Williamson has managed to make a goofy Silver Age character into a major threat, and potentially Barry's true archenemy. Read Full Review

But Why Tho? - Nikko Soto Jun 26, 2019

Things are getting even more serious and I am honestly on the edge of my seat waiting to read what happens next. The creative team is continuously making a memorable Year One story. Barry's character has been written well by Williamson throughout the entire arc. It gives an interesting new take on a hero that has made such an impact on my life. The ending has set up quite an interesting challenge for Barry to deal with. But one thing is for sure, this will be one of the fiercest challenges of his entire career of being The Flash. Overall this issue is nearly flawless, they don't get much better than this one, friends. From cover to cover there is an exciting sense of urgency, tension and suspense. The dramatic elements of the narrative take center stage allowing the action to act more as a framing device for the human elements. The visuals are absolutely gorgeous from the hyper-detailed line work to the vividly intense colors by Hi-Fi, this books is a standout. As the "Year One" narrative moves into the final act the stakes have never been higher for Barry on a multitude of levels. I can't wait for the next issue. Read Full Review

Williamson is a hell of a writer. This is the best and most exciting work he's ever done on this title. And the artwork by Porter is great. He's at the top of his career too. I love where this is going. It's a must read month in and month out. Read Full Review

his flashback story has been the best thing to happen to Josh Williamson's Flash run in years, as taking Barry back to the beginning has done amazing work in making us care about the often-controversial character. Read Full Review

You Don't Read Comics - Christopher Landers Jul 3, 2019

Overall, you might start off asking yourself if this title needed to devote a whole story arc to re-telling the origin of the Flash, but by the end of the issue, you will be asking why nobody ever dug this deep into the Turtle. Williamson may not be giving the readers the story they asked for, but he is delivering a story nobody knew they wanted. Read Full Review

This issue starts off really slow but we get some nice character progression and see how Barry and Iris' relationship grows. However, once we get to the cliffhanger, everything comes around and brought this book back to life in what was previously a dying storyline that was going nowhere. Now, for the first time in months, I can honestly say I am looking forward to the next issue of Flash. Read Full Review

Sequential Planet - Alex Marks Jun 29, 2019

The Flash: Year One has been pretty bland and this issue doesn't really do anything to spice it up. The art is great, but that's about it. I will say that if you're a Flash fan and have already made it this far, keep reading until the end. If you haven't read this arc at all, then as of this writing: just skip it. Read Full Review

"Year One" has emphasized Barry's relationships with two key characters, Iris West and The Turtle, yet it's clear in The Flash #73 that both of these essential individuals lack interiority or meaning outside of how they're defined in relation to Barry. Read Full Review
