Justice League #46 continues the latest chapter in The Darkseid War rather well especially considering we don't make leaps this issue but, steps leading up to another fantastic Act opener in just two weeks! Next month drives the story into its final arc and sees regular artist Jason Fabok return. Manupal did a bang-up job with these last two issues, especially on colors. I love his pop art sensibility and minimalist style, which allows the color to build depth and texture rather than using inks to do so. His tonal shift refreshed the story after such huge, powerful action in the first act and will allow Fabok to swoop in and drop the hammer on this story in its conclusion. This is the most excited I've been about "Justice League" since Grant Morrison recruited every boy and girl on planet Earth into the League; I'm fascinated by the slow build Johns has created in this book from issue one and have loved the payoff. Although this does deserve its share of praise, I can't help but say that it really felt like an interlude issue. After a short hiatus filled with one-shots,Justice Leaguefans have no doubt yearned for something a bit meatier. Overall: Justice League #46 is another fantastic read. What Johns continues to deliver on this title is exactly what super hero comic books should be all about. Grand stories of action and adventure. Modern day mythology crammed full of the gods and heroes of our time. Darkseid War is fun. Pure and simple. Johns fully understands the original intent of mainstream super hero comics which seems to get lost on many writers these days. Readers already invested in this title and/or this story arc have no reason to stop. It still continues to be a flawlessly written and well illustrated comic. This may have been a quieter issue in comparison to recent previous ones, but it doesnt lose out because major plot points are laden throughout. Pick this up and stay in the war! Read Full Review

Geoff Johns' big story continues to deliver. Despite the big death a few issues ago, we're seeing there is still a lot left to the story. Francis Manapul has been doing a great job with the art. We see a lot of seeds planted in this issue. There's clearly set up being done for the rest of the story. The moments are cool but don't quite contain the bombastic caliber we've seen so far. Things go at a steady pace throughout and escalate quickly at the end, leaving us with a bit of a cliffhanger. This is has been an extremely satisfying event. It's not often we can say that. This issue is exposition and a refresher executed as well as it possibly could be executed. Though there isn't much plot development, it's still well written, entertaining, and has some nice character moments, all of it getting topped off with Manapul's art. Overall, another good issue but not quite the big return I was expecting. Still, with the relationship and character development, this issue will hopefully be seen in hindsight as a good point in the arc to slow down a little and expand on those story points. Justice League #46 goes a long way in displaying the aftermath of the death of Darkseid and is a solid second act to the Darkseid War series. Francis Manapuls art captures and adds a fair amount of succor in times where the story is faulty. The decision to not actively include the core Justice League members to a greater extent helped to establish the secondary characters that this act focuses on, but came as a surprise after the last month of one-shot issues that promised to be followed up in this very issue. In the end, this issue isn't bad, but it is without a doubt the weakest issue of the Darkseid War. If I had to compare it to something else topical, it's like issue #5 of "Secret Wars" over at Marvel. It was a lot of setting up pieces to kick off an explosive finale. Francis Manapul, the artist of this issue, does a really great job with everything. There are some really great splash pages and the colors are beautiful. The moments in this comic that are really affecting are pulled off because Manapul renders them dynamically. However, his art doesn't change the fact that this story arc has lost it's momentum. This issue hints at good things to come and, if that is true, this issue is just a slightly dull step in the right direction. Read Full Review

Every comic series requires intermission issues that set up the rest of the arc, and that's exactly what this issue was. There was nothing inherently bad about this outing, but nothing too far on the positive side either. While I was really anticipating this issue after having all those one-shots and that bad ass cliffhanger from the previous issue, this just left me wanting more because........ Well, because not much went on at all.  Our God like heroes are off doing other things and the heroes that we're left with are just grasping at straws in trying to figure out what to do next.  It's just not that engaging and Manapul's art, while I normally enjoy it just doesn't do anything for me here except make me wish that Fabok was on this instead.   Read Full Review

Justice League #46 was a very poor outing and something I was actually shocked to read, seeing as how I have actually been enjoying the story Johns has been putting out. However, this one was riddled with mistakes from poor transitions, to spreading himself way too thin on characters, and to just plain bad dialogue and storytelling. Just like issue 45 this one feels like nothing more than filler and an advert for the tie ins. Hey look Flash is a god now, so is batman… And superman…. And lex Luther…. And Shazam…. And green lantern… Omg ok we get it, they're all gods and they all have tie in books and it's Christmas and you all want to spend time with your families so you churn out books like this. This is a $4 book in the middle of a great storyline and this is terrible. Easily skipped in the overall story arch. Read Full Review

It's transitional in the story but I love seeing Francis's art.

I'm starting to get used to Manapul's work.The addition of Barda to the team made me happy.The relationship between her and Scott is unique and I really want to see more of it.The only problem was the slow pace.

Seriously. Good art isn't enough to keep a comic going.

The art is hit and miss, some pages look great and other clunky. The character drawing is good but the backgrounds are sloppy and mostly nonexistent. The writing was dreadfully boring. As many have already pointed out, nothing happens, the plot barely inches forward at all. Instead, we have yet ANOTHER character tossed into the fray, as if we didn't have enough already. It's just a mad house.
