Overall, this is an excellent issue. There's no real action so don't get too excited for that. But it more than makes up for that in charm and personality. Every inch of the art is beautiful and fun to look at. There's wonderful character moments for Diana and the ending is very cool even if it is a little too much of a coincidence. Im glad that Greg Rucka is a feminist writer. Wonder Woman is written in a smart way that will please anyone who cares about social justice and those who do not. She does not preach. Towards the end of Wonder Woman #12, we're re-introduced to an iconic character from Diana's history – and it ties neatly into events from previous issues. Even though this vengeful villain is truly intimidating – Wonder Woman will surely be more than a match for him. Especially given how powerful and inspiring she's drawn to look across this series. We're loving her image and the rest of the art as a whole. It really brings the inspirational themes of hope that DC are trying the bring in across their titles. I often find myself calling her Diana more than Wonder Woman these days solely due to the stories told in the rebirth series. Scott & co. took a goddess and toned her down to one of the most human and relatable characters I've seen in the superhero genre this year. What this issue and entire series taught me was that its not about how much action you can jam pack into a comic but that good story telling and writing coupled with spot on artwork and most importantly, being a fan of what you're doing are all what makes a successful comic book. Although it's only the penultimate issue of the "Year One" saga, this is the issue that finally answers what it was building to, and ties it all together in a beautiful package, leaving just enough unresolved for #14.

Year One continues to kick ass. I really like this depiction of Diana, and am enjoying the Nicola Scott art immensely.

An unique reintroduction to Ares that I hope leads to better and more detailed questions being answered in Wonder Woman's life. Ares has always been a personal favorite and I am looking forward to see where this leads.

Plot: The gunmen that Wonder Woman took down in the mall are now in custody and the authorities are trying to figure out who they are. With the help of Wonder Woman's lasso (and some input from Dr. Barbara Minerva) she is able find a dark secret that the mind-controlled gunmen were unintentionally hiding...
There is a strange virus going around that is affecting people and making them into mindless, belligerent killers. However, if you were to go back to George Perez' Wonder Woman run you will find many similarities in this story. It feels like Rucka is trying to bring back the pre-Flashpoint Wonder Woman story's elements back in the "Year One" storyline and while the "Lies" storyline feels like Rucka is addressing many of the Azarello Wonder Woman run. Still with the help of Scott's artwork, this book was enjoyable even if it felt like it was treading familiar territory.
