The Vultures are Circling!
• Some people might not be ready for a warts-and-all biopic of MYSTERIO'S early days...
• The VULTURE has a bone to pick with his old partner in crime! (That guy's brutal - he might actually want to pick Mysterio's bones!)
• It's up to MARY JANE to save the day! But with the film's funding in jeopardy, can she defend the production both on and off the set?
Rated T
Williams has settled-in to the milieu of Mary Jane with this issue in a way that feels both smart and sophisticated. She manages this without compromising action and pacing. The series is beginning to reach some of its potential with this issue. A slightly more detailed look at Hollywood in the Marvel Universe in the course of production, these first few issues could go a long way towards making this series something original AND accomplished. Various elements of cast, tone, and mood need to lower into place a bit more, but this is a striking move in the right direction for the young series. Read Full Review
The Amazing Mary Jane #3 (Williams, Gomez, Werneck, and Lopez) is an overall good comic. No one aspect has blown me away. However, I also cant find much reason to complain. It does, however, continue to keep my interest and curiosity as to what is to be coming next. Read Full Review
The Amazing Mary Jane is all together anything but amazing thus far. Three issues in and MJ has done next to nothing. I'm beginning to think this series was done just to sell variant covers to collectors because the story is severely lacking when pertaining to the title character. Read Full Review
With the series third installment, the title continues to struggle to find an identity for itself. It injects action for the sake of it being a superhero book, but the quicker it figures out it's not the stronger the series will become. Read Full Review
Even an issue that is less dull than prior installments is so poorly assembled that it's impossible to ever accept the story it presents or be entertained by various elements of artifice that desperately seek to be entertaining. Read Full Review
Critic ratings confuse me, this series is fun
The lack of praise for this book baffles me. It's exactly the kind of out-of-the-box story you'd think would resonate with the turtleneck crowd.
I don't love it, but it's entertaining and different and FUN.
I thought this was fun, overall. I especially liked the introduction of the new crew. I didn't expect to see Screwball in this as she's... lame. But I guess it would make sense that she's the new production manager. And Master Matrix, I wasn't entirely sure was a canonical character after Spider-Man/Deadpool's ending, but here he is, still trying so hard. This is a definite improvement over issue two. Oh also, Weird Science Marvel Comics is wrong in their review. Mary Jane does plenty, to the point where she's almost too heroic. Think Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #11, but maybe even more Mary Jane than that.
Same old, same old. Fun, non-demanding story, but nothing particularly special to make it stand out.
A guilty pleasure more than a high quality book.
This issue is a solid "silly movie set shenanigans" montage, and it mercifully restores agency to MJ and gets her a little further out of Mysterio's orbit. But nothing in this or the prior issues gives me much confidence in the second half's ability to deliver a cohesive, satisfying conclusion.
I liked this one slightly more than usual.
