"This is our day, gentlemen. The day the Sinister Six reigns supreme." Something about that declaration is inspiring. Dr. Octavius referring to his compatriots - including a guy made out of sand, a guy wearing a fishbowl on his head and a guy in a rhinocerous outfit - as 'gentlemen' lends a quiet dignity to their collective madness, and the only way Amazing Spider-Man #683 could make me happier would be letting Mysterio kick a little more ass. This battle royale in a remote cave does feel a little similar to Slott's earlier crossover with the Fantastic Four, where the team also fought a horde of villains (including replicas of the Sinister Six). But with easy accessibility, a satisfying sense of pacing and some gorgeous art, Amazing Spider-Man places a high bar that its contemporaries would do well to emulate. Read Full Review

Although there are other Spider-Man choices on the rack and the costume still doesn't quite wow me, The Amazing Spider-Man #683 is genuinely enjoyable and a lot of fun for new readers and fans of the Webhead. As a long time Spider-Man reader, I’ve always loved The Sinister Six, but they’re not the same Spidey punching bags they once were. With a dying Doctor Octopus who’s got nothing to lose as their leader, they’re more organized, patient, bad-ass & deadlier than ever. Like Mysterio tells Chameleon “This is The Sinister Six. You’re in the majors now. Act like it!” I like Spidey’s new armour, except the helmet looks a little too close to The New Warrior’s Night Thrasher. Another very entertaining issue. There are nice moments in this issue. Al Gore getting punched in the face was sweet. But, those nice moments aren't enough to overcome the problems presented by a very stale set of villains. Can't Spidey fight against someone new instead of fighting these guys for the upteenth time? We know how this turns out so there is no drama. Read Full Review
