Slott respects his fans, and he's building a relationship with readers by proving he's the biggest fan of the character. His love for the comic is infectious, and the Spider-Verse succeeds because we buy into the madness/genius of it all. This is the complete package, and you do yourself a disservice by ignoring it altogether. Read Full Review
This event has my jaw on the floor (if it isn't obvious by my numerous articles on it and incessant gushing). This issue had my heart beating with a bit of adrenaline and that's rare for me. It had me searching through Google wondering how on earth I could have missed the new Spider-Men featured in this issue and wanting to know everything about them. Finally the cliffhanger at the end of this issue delivers an emotional punch that will hopefully make them all realize exactly why they are who they are, and why they need to fight for every Spider-Hero out there. Dan Slott seems to be taking a Looney Tunes' "Barber of Seville" approach-- the heroes run on screen with a weapon, then the villains run on screen with a bigger one, then the heroes run on with an even bigger one" But with such alternatingly interesting, serious, and silly characters, and with genuine surprise reveals like our last page, this Spider-Verse story really is an exciting, must-read, roller coaster of an event. All in all, Spider-Verse has been a complete blast so far, if you're missing out on this make sure to check it out! Read Full Review
"Spider-Verse" may be one of the most entertaining Spider-Man stories I've ever read. Dan Slott has given individuality to a series of characters who are basic copies of each other, and he's done so by putting them on an heroic journey that redefines what makes Spider-Man one of the world's most beloved heroes. All in all, it's an issue that kicks this event into high gear, letting the reader know things are about to hurtle toward a conclusion. If Slott can keep up the pace and keep things moving, we'll have the epic Spider-event Marvel is hoping for. Read Full Review
Amazing Spider-Man #12 continues the streak of strong Spider-Verse issues and Dan Slott, Giuseppe Camuncoli and Justin Ponsor are bringing their A-games to this event. This issue features a solid story, great art and an intriguing cliffhanger that may be polarizing, but I'm excited to see what it brings. The madness of this event doesn't seem to be dying down, and I'm loving every page of it. Read Full Review
Overall the book was a fun read only really hurt by a weird plot twist at the end. Read Full Review
The Spider-Verse series is really good. How the team will eventually come together and defeat The Inheritors is still a mystery, but I have a feeling uncle Ben has it all worked out. In a week that has Ant-Man #1 and the Unbeatable Squirrel-Girl #1 arriving on the stands, The Amazing Spider-Man #12 manages to drop a big bomb that will have the Internet talking for a couple of weeks. Beyond the gimmick " and yes, uncle Ben's return is a gimmick " The Amazing Spider-Man #12 is a well written story, even with the glimpses/teases to pick up the tie-in issues, and the art is fantastic. Definitely something you should pick up if you have been following Spider-Man for any amount of time. Read Full Review
Perhaps the problems of the tie-ins has been more pronounced in the past and it simply hasn't been as noticeable because this is the first a tie-in hasn't been available readily, but in either case this is a strong issue in what has, so far, been an enormously satisfying event. The visual changes match the tonal ones and make the whole series feel like its entering a new act, and if what we see at the end is any indicator, its definitely going to be the final one. At every turn, whenever some reveal or event feels like it could either be one of the best or one of the worst things, Slott manages the former every time. Read Full Review
Spider-Verse is a pretty weird comic. All Big Events have tie-in comics, it's just the nature of the beast. But never have I seen a Big Event so devoted to promoting its various tie-ins. Every single issue of Amazing Spider-Man in this crossover has devoted time to checking in with the tie-ins. It's weird! Fortunately, this doesn't detract from what is still a very entertaining comic. Read Full Review
Overall, this is still a decent issue that features some interesting new Spider-Men. It would be nice if the story can actually move forward, or have character development on already existed Spider-Men. There's a supposedly shocking revelation at the end of the issue, but I think the writer is just way over his head. Read Full Review
So much happens in this issue and had I not been reading all the tie-ins, I would be a little confused as to what certain characters are up to. But this job does a good job of summarizing what is happening elsewhere briefly while moving the story further ahead. Read Full Review
Slott's dialogue is not at the level is usually is as he tries to balance the large cast, but the book does deliver some big moments (can you say Leopardon?) that keep it fairly entertaining. Read Full Review
This was an ambitious undertaking to say the least, and it's been a bumpy road, but overall I have been enjoying it. Read Full Review
The latest chapter of Spider-Verse is somewhat disappointing compared to the previous three, but that hardly means there's no entertainment to be had. Dan Slott manages to ramp up the drama without losing sight of the inherent fun of this concept. Giuseppe Camuncoli, meanwhile, fills in for Olivier Coipel as well as anyone could hope. It's mainly the lack of forward momentum in this issue that disappoints. With only two chapters remaining, this storyline needs to kick into high gear. Read Full Review
"Amazing Spider-Man" #12 is the perfect drug for those looking to get their Spidey overdose, but those who don't care to double down will probably find themselves overloaded with these not-always-friendly, trans-dimensional Spider-Men. Read Full Review
This issue is good, but not great and probably terrible if you haven't read the previous issues. That said, if you're digging this series you should find enough in this issue to enjoy it. Read Full Review
Amazing Spider-Man #12 is a narrative stall for a story that needed a boost. "Spider-Verse" repeats familiar beats instead of presenting any new themes, character beats, or genuine surprises. This is a practice in excess instead of focus and it is lesser for it. Read Full Review
ASM #12 is more of an assortment of Spider stories merged into a single regular-sized issue. After reading ASM #12, I couldn't help but feel as if I had just watched multiple TV shows simultaneously. Although I am still very optimistic about the Spider-Verse tale in general, this was one chapter(s) I will not miss. Read Full Review
This book is not quite as clear with who is which Spider-Man. Sometimes I'm unsure if I'm seeing the 616 Peter Parker or not. There is still a lot going on in this book but its still very interesting. The reveal at the end is incredibly huge too. Its so big I don't believe that it can be true.
Not the strongest issue of spiderverse, but it progressed the story nicely. I prefers Copiel's art though, except for the fact that he has started drawing Peter to look like Andrew Garfield.
I miss Coipel's pencils. This was an ok chapter but I don't need more random obscure Spider-people regardless of whether or not they can bring in a giant robot zord and command it like a power ranger. So far Earth 616 Peter hasn't done anything spectacular to warrant him as the chosen leader (sound a little like Superior Spider-Man now) and we take a tour of dinosaur land before meeting up with Silk and Uncle Ben in nuclear land. I'm curious to see what Jessica Drew is up to though. Definitely the weakest chapter of Spider-Verse but there's enough good stuff to keep me on this wild ride.
I am highly disappointed in Spider-Verse so far. It is not even close to living up to the hype.
