For me, this is one the hottest mini series Marvel has to offer. Telling the complex story of Thanos’ beginnings is not an easy task, but Aaron does it which such ease. Where will the next issue take us? I think I’m too petrified to find out. Read Full Review

Unleash The Fanboy - Charles Joy Jun 9, 2013

Simone Bianchi once again does the issue complete justice when it comes to capturing the essence of the darkness and the depth portrayed in story. Thanos' depiction in comparison to his beautiful counterparts becomes completely clear in this issue. How else would you portray such a tormented outcast who was forced to wander the stars in search for something he will never find? Read Full Review

I think it's easy and lazy to denounce this series for shining light on a mystery some think better unexplored, but this series is proof that with the right artists involved, any story can be worth telling. I may not have thought I wanted to see Thanos' days of post-adolescence, but Aaron gives us a fascinating creature of longing, and we can see how that insatiable desire to feed an unquenchable emptiness turned him into the malevolent ruler we know so well. THANOS RISING is prequel storytelling that moves us. Read Full Review

No, there has only been one thing that has truly galvanized Thanos in his life thus far. He returns home to Titan to find it. Or should that be… well, maybe you should just find out for yourself. 8.0 Simone Bianchi's dark, eerie art once again fits the mood.Feeling a bit more like a befitting Thanos origin comic.Only one issue left in the series — hopefully not too much is crammed into the final one. I'm intrigued by how the larger role Death is finally playing in the comic. With only 5 issues in total, I'm of course going to finish it though I'm just not sure if it will keep my attention for the entire run. At the very least, the next issue looks like he's wearing The Infinity Gauntlet on the cover so if there's any reference alluding to that (even if this is all supposed to take place far before that time period) I'll be quite the happy reader. While the story doesn't deliver as much as you'd expect, you can only hope that now with Thanos older, there is something to push to towards the end of your seat. Read Full Review

Comic Vine - Corey 'Undeadpool' Schroeder Jun 5, 2013

Ive said before that Im a huge fan of both Jason Aaron and Simone Bianchi, and that continues to hold true, but this book is a rare misstep. Not only is it rote in its execution, it doesnt really add anything to Thanos as a character. Knowing what we now know doesnt give us a better understanding of him, either as a man or as a villain and the book is beginning to feel like Dexter in Space with a lot of its tropes. This issue still grinds by on the strength of the art, but unless the next two are absolutely astounding, I cant see what the purpose of this book has been, and thats the thing at the end of the day: the books not BAD by any stretch, its just not adding much. Thanos has his moments in this issue, particularly towards the end, but the series ultimately feels hollow and unfulfilling. If Infinity Gauntlet was Star Wars, this is very much The Phantom Menace. Read Full Review

Comic Bastards - Dustin Cabeal Jun 7, 2013

I still don’t even know if this is an ongoing or not, but it doesn’t matter since I won’t be returning to the title. Everyone that’s buying it now is sure to see the holes forming in the predictable plot the minute Bianchi needs a break from the art duties. When that happens, look for a quick creator shake up before the series is cancelled. Read Full Review

Weekly Comic Book Review - Hugo Robberts Lariviere Jun 7, 2013

While the art team does its very best to liven things up, this vision of Thanos and his progression through life is just uninspired and dulls out one of the better antagonists that Marvel has in his repertory. Let's just say that I won't find out if it gets better next month. Dropped. Read Full Review
