Unleash The Fanboy - Charles Joy Jul 17, 2013

Once again, this issue deserves high praise. It brings what we have all known about Thanos and Death to light. It is heartbreaking. I was left with strange feelings of remorse and pity – oddly enough, not for the thousands of people Thanos has killed to get to where he is thus far, but for the Mad Titan himself. Read Full Review

THANOS RISING is an incredible series, beautifully executed by the entire creative team. THANOS RISING bleeds Marvel cosmic, completely unashamed of that particular corner of the MU's uniqueness, the Starlin tradition of all powerful Gods in an endless struggle with self. THANOS RISING #4 is heart breaking, tragic, and infuriating – because Aaron makes it hard for us to accept seeing Thanos become what he must become, and I think that might be the key to a good prequel story. Highly refined and multilayered origin for a very important Marvel villain. The pathos and melodrama may be a bit much for some readers. Read Full Review

I do feel that this issue is the best one yet. For me this series started off weak, but has been getting better with each subsequent issue. It was great to see the relationship between Thanos and Death explained, and the final page leaves you wanting to see just how this will end. Read Full Review

Other than that, not much happens in this issue. We've got one issue left and this one is pretty much setting up the return to his home planet of Titan next issue where Thanos will have to face off against his Pa Dukes, A'Lars (who still can't believe Thanos is batshit crazy) and most certainly his grandfather Kronos, as this panel suggests: Read Full Review

Things are finally coming together for this Thanos mini-series to give us a look to the inside of how Thanos' mind works. While this has probably been my favorite issue of the lot so far, I'm still not sold that the run was necessary. Some of what has been revealed makes him just look like a serial killer, some has been alluded to in other comics, none of it has that wow factor that makes me feel the run needed to be made. I love Thanos. Once he was revealed in ‘The Avengers' film I knew he'd be coming back and coming back big. The upcoming ‘Infinity' run should appease that and I sure as hell hope so because while I did enjoy this issue, this run has had very little in the appeasement factor for me. Read Full Review

"Thanos Rising" #4 is an adequate lead-in to the series finale -- it's good looking but doesn't have much personality. Read Full Review

Thanos Rising is a mini-series that has gone on far too long with decompressed storytelling. It’s a huge problem that faces many good comic books as of late. There is so much hinging on the last issue of this comic. It is a real disappointment to not see a bigger focus on all of these epic stories surrounding the character. The Thanos Quest and I Thanos feature a more mature, modern, and nuanced take on the character and both series are over twenty years old. Readers should await the next issue with a skeptical eye, as it may present some payoff to these stories or continue the dull story presented in these pages. Read Full Review
