Espionage agents around the world are being assassinated. The person behind it: an all-new Ronin! The next two super-spies targeted for death: Black Widow and Mockingbird! The wildcard determined to unmask the killer: Hawkeye.
I'm not completely certain if a miniseries is the best vehicle to deliver Hawkeye stories, but if I can get this quality on a regular basis " as I did with the monthly series and with the first issue of this mini " then I truly don't care how I get it or what the numbering sequence is on the cover. Give me an ongoing series or a series of miniseries; just give me more awesome Hawkeye, Mockingbird, and Black Widow stories from McCann, Lpez, and company. This issue delivers a nice punch for the price. Do yourself a favor and splurge on a holiday treat. You can thank me next year. Read Full Review
I loved this issue and hope that it turns out upon completion as well as it has started off. Hopefully, it will also raise enough eyebrows and garner enough attention to enable McCann and crew the opportunity to continue working with these characters in the future. Read Full Review
David Lopez is in strong form as well. His work isn't terribly stylish, which does hinder some of the darker, bloodier scenes a bit. Umm, I guess this comic was okay. It didn't really blow me away or anything, it just kind of was. I'm going to chalk the slow start up to the fact that this was only the first issue, and as such had to set things up. With three of my favorite Marvel characters in this mini(Hawkeye, Mockingbird & Black Widow), I'm still expecting GREAT things, but so far, I'm still waiting. Read Full Review
After the cancellation of Hawkeye and Mockingbird, I was really hoping that this brief miniseries could continue my enjoyment of Jim McCann and David Lopez's take on those fantastic characters. Unfortunately, this issue really falls short of my expectations. There are certainly things to like and the mystery behind the new Ronin is intriguing; unfortunately, the issues really overwhelm this book's strengths and hindered my enjoyment of it. While Widowmaker 1 is technically a continuation of Hawkeye and Mockingbird, this opening issue jumps in way too quick that I barely had time to breath. This is delivered with annoyingly choppy dialogue but with great art and action
