That’s my point. I am not reading the later issues, I am reading the now issue. There has to be something going on now that matters. There have to be stakes in this issue. Or I could be wrong.

Batman is getting his face caved in by a giant robot, the Batfamily has to come save him and then are demolished themselves. That's pretty high stakes. Then he resorts to using another unstable failsafe program. That matters. The complaint of set up issues having nothing of substance is getting ridiculous when this is normal practice in comics now. Stories are told over longer arcs that have payoff an issue or two later so they give you an action heavy issue to put the protagonist at a low point

Not high stakes, predictable cliches that show no clever plotting or characterization. Or I could be wrong.

Look you can say what you want but the court of owls is a 9-9.5/10 Batman story. And one of the best stories dc put out since 2000. And people need to stop just rating books, based on the characters sexuality. There is no chance this book deserves a 9.8/10 score lol. It's no long Halloween, it's no the dark knight rises, it's not born again, and it wasn't any other classic that will be remembered forever. It will be forgotten about and replaced by next years pride anthology.

The Court of Owls was my favorite Batman book. Before I grew up and read better books. And DC didn't mercilessly push it further than it was meant to. Books like this are for those in the LGBTQ+ community who don't feel heard or represented nearly enough and to say that they can't rate this a 10/10 just because it won't have lasting impact the same way those other stories have is sad. Who are you to say their enjoyment of the book is wrong?

Better Batman stories since the court of owls ........ Nothing Tom king did. Nothing tynion did Williamson only got 1 arc And now we get zdarsky. But in the Batman title I would say the court of owls is the best Batman book since the new 52 started. @criminology because I'm tired of bullshit scores and people being award a 10/10 just because book has diversity in it. They are fake ratings, for an anthology book to be a 10/10. That means the story and art in every single story within that anthology was a 10/10. And we all know it wasn't. A 10/10 rating should be reserved for literally the best comics of all time. Like out of the thousands of comics I own. Maybe 15-25 deserve a 10/10. It's extremely tough to be a perfect book.

And yes the court of owls was gods gift to Batman fans. New lasting villains and a great story that hasn't been topped by the next theee writers on the title. I agree with Criminology. I loved the Kevin Conroy story, but the rest of the book was kinda meh for me; I'm not really into romance stories. I gave it a 9 because the Conroy story makes the book worth $10. (Also, I'm guessing some readers will give it a 1 because they're homophobes.)

Don't take it so personal, It's not in your control and should not really affect you. People use different systems of rating. For example, i'm prone to rate something 10 out of 10, if it's accomplishes everything, it sets up to do. Or maybe i just enjoyed it just that much. Maybe that particular book means something to those people, who rated it 10 out of 10. People have different priorities, like certain books for different reasons, subscribe to different ideas about art etc.

Especially when those 10 out of 10 review, do not have any text with them, i think it's really futile to think anything of them. Whatever you are guessing, it could be wrong. So i don't see a reason to think anything of them, especially them being fake. This site is to express your opinions and feeling on the book and maybe why you don't think it deserves a high rating, not going after the people, who don't share your feelings. IMO at least

Just because something is "classic" doesn't mean it's great. Many of the mini series that have come out since the N52 alone have been better stories than Court of Owls. But none of that has to do with the issue at hand. Read the book before you decide to start a flame war because you are upset that DC released another Pride book. I'm sure for some people, this book means a lot to them. Read the issue, think about it and what is it supposed to represent to those whom it is written about.

Agreed, there is tons of "classic" stuff, i disliked. I think with reviews honesty to your thoughts and feelings is one of the most important things, not necessary how admirable and innovative the work is.

Very odd to compare an anthology issue to a storyline. They aren't usually comparable, wouldn't you agree? And people rate them differently, because are different? Because they use logic in those review I would say. And my guy, Court of Owls is a great point to start reading Batman. It's not the best Batman storyline released in the past decade or so, but I would say it's the best starting point. But then again, that's just my opinion. As these reviews usually are, eh?

@hex I've read every single Batman story since court of owls, and most of the greats that came before it. Other then the bigby one, and no I disagree with that. And look, the only point I was really trying to make. Was that if people rate books 10/10 that are not 10/10 then a 10/10 becomes a worthless number that doesn't mean anything. My guy, why doesn't that apply to 1/10 reviews too? With that logic, those are as much of bullshit reviews as 10/10? And I don't think people think 10/10 means perfect. For me for example means "it does everything it's supposed to do and it does it almost perfectly".

@afre it does buddy. People who review bomb a 1.0/10 are just as bad, unless they give a an good reason why the comic isn't worth the paper it's printed on. Most comics are in 4/10-8/10 range. And doing everything your supposed to and doing it almost perfect is a 8.5/10 to me. You already stated it's not perfect. There is nothing wrong with a 8.5/10 rating that's fucking amazing. And that's a book I'll buy a hardcover of for the shelf!

So yes we need to get rid of the 1.0/10 reviews with no text, and we need to get rid of the 10/10 rating without an explanation into why this is a perfect comic book. Because 10/10 doesn't mean really good. It means perfection. And should not be given out a lot. Let alone multiple times a week by some reviewers just trying to get there name on the back cover of a graphic novel.

My boy, Batman Eternal had about six issues of story stretched into a 52-issue along with a "twist" that everyone predicted two issues in.

I think the weirdness of this whole thread is that you chose to put your foot down on these 1/10 and 10/10 ratings over a Pride special rather than the multitude of other series where people do this same thing.

My guy, I don't think anyone is saying King's run was better than Eternal. They are just saying it wasn't that good (and it really wasn't, like why did Croc beat Bane and speak Spanish suddenly???) And I think we can all agree that White Knight is the peak Batman. And my guy, maybe next time if you want to ask people to add context to their reviews and not give plain 10/10 or 1/10, maybe don't start with complaining about just the 10s in DC's Pride Anthology? And maybe word it better?

The new show was such a disappointment and I really hoped it would be like Lemire's run. Now it's Jeds job to carry Moon Knight on his back since Disney couldn't be bothered to do so.

I liked the new show. For a character that gets consistently revamped every run or so, it's actually baffling to me how many Moon Knight fans couldn't stand something different. We all like the Lemire run. And hot take: That run is not a beginner's run. That story should not be someone's first Moon Knight story. And it sure as shit shouldn't have been the show's story.

I didn't dislike it because it was different. I just hoped it would've taken more risks. It had a solid start, very boring second and third episode, mediocre fourth one with an interesting ending, amazing fifth one and just boring finale. Maybe I just hoped it would be more like Daredevil in a way. It had great additions and changes too and Layla was one of them, but mostly it was just meh for me.

I think Ellis's run is the perfect starting point, but how can that be adapted

Batman: Imposter, Batman: The Knight, some of Kings' stories (like War of Riddles and Jokes and I am Bane), Endgame and The Button are better stories than Court of Owls. Three Jokers up there too. Best story that is peak Batman? Easily White Knight and it's sequels.

(And in my defense, you did say "It proved everything I said 100% true" and that included praising Court of Owls and saying it's best Batman. So you can't really fault me for correcting :)

Ya Tom kings two issue double date with Clark and Lois was probably the best two issues of his run. Which should prove why I make fun of his run the way I do.... And Batman imposter is not better then court of owls, the white knight I might give you on part but not better and the sequel while gorgeous isn't as good as 1, endgame not better then court three jokers was beautiful but a better story... no just no.

I thought Imposter was incredibly middling and was disappointed in hindsight to realize it really was similar to the movie's tone.

It uses Superman on the cover to make the reader believe they're getting a fantasy/adventure book then it proceeds to give them a lecture, with a guy in a red cape punching something occasionally to be allowed to keep Superman on the cover. I get it he wants the big story to sell the trade paperback but to do that he is ignoring the quality of the weekly story. So yeah I still want new writers and a return to the 4 series/weekly format. No, it's not. You don't have numbers. And as I said, it's the TOP 50 out of 400, if Son of Kal-El is at #70, with 30k, it's a good number. Several characters have 30k like their normal, Daredevil, Nightwing, Flash. And nowadays you have the digital sales, and Son of Kal-El always does well on Amazon weekly sales.

I get my numbers on what is available to the general public (I've included a link) I didn't see the series in Amazon's top 100 sellers either. So I don't know what you're basing your viewpoint on. Taylor was pushing the Amazon top 100 a couple of months back. The reality is the book is selling poorly other than gimmuck issues which spike for that month. Same as you noted the LCS I go to the book is not selling. Now to be fair the only DC books that are selling well are the batman books.
