I couldn't have expected a response this gold. Lots to go over here. Firstly, yes, I have read V for Vendetta. Given the rest of your comments, I have to assume you questioning whether I had in response to me questioning you was an attempt to avoid answering with an emphatic "No." A few things to lay out about V for Vendetta: One, it's basically Alan Moore's manifesto on Anarchism, and how he thinks of freedom must be handled in a state without a governmental hierarchy.

To be clear, Alan Moore is an anarchist. Two, V for Vendetta is not only political in nature, it is enthusiastically so. Why would someone who's sick of politics in entertainment use the avatar of a series that's wholly political? Three, V is all about symbology. His entire goal throughout V for Vendetta is to become a symbol and an idea. That's the whole point of the Guy Fawkes mask and the theatricality of his actions. V understood how symbology is used to convey ideology, why can't you?

Four, V is not a centrist. V, like Alan Moore, is an anarchist. He's a character through which Alan Moore waxes about his broader ideology as it pertains to the central ideal of freedom. Reactionaries like you are not revolutionaries like V. You're actually advocating entirely for a system wherein the status quo is maintained and forced, like a boot, on the throats of everyone.

With that out of the way, let's get to the broader ideas here. You're showing your bias in an attempt to remained enlightened in your "centrism." You downplay the Punisher logo being co-opted in policing as "certain despicable individuals". The problems with policing are not individual. They are systemic.

The Punisher logo being co-opted by a massive amount of cops and servicemen is simply a symptom of an increasingly authoritarian system, wherein individuals are coerced into accepting or willingly accept more and more power over the people, in an effort to maintain a status quo of white supremacy, heteronormativity and capital. The end result of this is a police state. Many would say that places like America are already police states.

Now, you may have heard of police states in this book called V for Vendetta. The people that V is fighting in that book? The Norsefire political party? They're in control of a police state. And, if you remember from your reading, V was very against this. V was a victim of the police state, even. Why someone using a V avatar would downplay a sign of systemic policing issues is beyond me.

But you're totally fine going all in on the "SJW cancel culture fascists." Now, here's where you've got me. V probably would get cancelled. But for good reason, he did in fact torture poor Evey in a ideological drive only mustered by those too locked-up-in-a-concentration-camp to touch grass. However, like all, ahem, "victims" of cancel culture, I'm sure V would be perfectly fine about a year later, with plenty of financial opportunities to exploit from people like you.

I suggest you read up on fascism. You might find some examples of it in this book called V for Vendetta. A hallmark of fascism is perpetual victimhood. The idea that the enemy is both strong and weak. If your, no doubt, numerous copies of V for Vendetta are just too far out of reach, you can look at your own comments for an example of fascist thinking. A giant corporation like Disney tipping the scales on poor Punisher here, and taking away his logo just because some state-authorized murderers beat people while wearing it. What's my point? Ridley is not writing a character that most bat fans care for. Thus ranges from simply not being the real batman to readers not caring to be bludgeoned over the head with Ridleys afro Marxist race agenda. That kinda falls in Marxist territory. Yes, it wasn't present in this particular comic, but he has touched on the subject in several other issues.

Wealth redistribution and Marxism aren't the same thing and you know it. But im not getting into a political dissertation here. Its not present in this book, plain and simple.

Writing a character as a hero doesnf meanyou agree with them either. This is such a simple minded view of storytelling. When you write characters that doesnt mean every protagonist is supposed to be your "persona". It means you're writing a fictional character with their own goals and ideas and thoughts. Skilled writers can do that, and skilled readers can make the distinction between the writer and the character. Do you think Nolan agrees with everything Batman says or does in TDK?

And what even is "race baiting" exactly? Acknowledging that racial tensions and disparity exist isn't race baiting. A black cop mentioning it is realistic, not "baiting", its something every black person is cognizant of and some are vocal about. These are characters and fictional individuals and if you want these characters to be written with any sort of relevancy you'll acknowledge that these perspectives exist in real life and so including them isn't a problem.

Writing a character as a hero AND parroting those same talking points in interviews show that's what Ridley actually thinks. I'm not going to get in another one of those never ending conversations just because you're bored and need the attention. I've already brought all the arguments TWICE and you refuse to accept them and just want to live in your parallel reality. Go for it.

Merlyn though brings up a great point on how writers write heroes. Frank Miller gave us a fractured Daredevil with vulnerabilities but still a virtuous hero. Flaws and all.

The punisher though is an u interesting exception. He started as a villian who turned out to be manipulated and renounced his hit on spiderman. The readers liked him and he grew to have his own titles. Hes been written as both hero and anti hero very successfully with chuck dixon giving us a classic vision while Ennis gave us a dark disturbed punisher with a very black humor delivery. Both versions resonate with fans today.

And getting back to Merlyns point on Moore vs Ridley...Dixon and Ennis are political opposites yet both are quality writers writing a character that fans enjoy.

Society has biases. We can fix this through recognizing that these biases exist, and work on fixing them. We could also greatly increase social welfare to help uplift the poor, so that they have some form of upward social mobility and a safety net so that no one has to go without eating or without a place to live, or without healthcare. Doing that would dramatically decrease crime rates across the board, and create a more moral and just society.

Personally, I have issues with Tamaki’s writing on superhero books. I didn’t mind future state dark detective, but overall, there was not much of a story and that’s Tamkaki’s fault overall. She is better with non hero stuff where she can take her time and write more realistic, little moments. I did not like her X-23 or Wonder Woman books so I am going onto this one with cautious hope. I like to give every issue a chance, but I am worried.

Dan Mora’s art is always good enough to buy a book as well!

@fearUhavemeisenough Comics are my life and Red Hood is my favorite member of the Batfamily. I got a tattoo of his emblem. I have nothing against supporting comics. He was going out of his way to say he DIDN'T support comics because he couldn't be bothered to buy the issue. What I had a problem with is his unnecessary inclusion of how much money he spent on them when it has NOTHING to do with the review or even the subject of this comic. If it was a Red Hood comic, it might have been relevant.
