But Why Tho? - William J. Jackson Nov 22, 2022

Action Comics #1049 is a testament to Superman's prowess. But more to the point, it's a treatise on what makes this hero resonate, not to mention a statement on what the recent film version of the character lacked. His qualities are infectious, showing readers that positive influence can spread outward. This issue is more than just eye candy. It's a reaffirmation of how to be a hero. Read Full Review

Supergirl Comic Box Commentary - Anj Nov 25, 2022

For a while I was worried that Thao-La might be sticking around to replace Kara. But here it looks like she is a leader on the departed Warworld. Definitely liked Thao as the character who introduced us to the culture of Warworld and the Phaelosians. Glad she has had such a powerful arc. This is one of the best Action Comics run I have read and I hope everyone is picking it up. My guess is next issue will be a good 'jump on' moment! Read Full Review

Action Comics #1049 continues this books run of excellence. Next issue is the big blow-off to Johnsons run, and itll be amazing to see what comes next. Both stories show off teams at the peak of their powers, giving readers remarkable tales. Action Comics is consistently better than nearly any other superhero book on the market, and thats all there is to it. Read Full Review

Geek Dad - Ray Goldfield Nov 22, 2022

The conclusion of the "Kal-El Returns storyline, which brought the entire Super-family together for the first time in over a year, delivers with an emotional coda that works really nicely despite the whole stakes. Read Full Review

Lyles Movie Files - Jeffrey Lyles Nov 22, 2022

Action Comics has been consistent and picked up even more steam with the Kal-El Returns arc. The inevitable clash with Metallo should be well worth the buildup even as we know Luthor still has more up his sleeve. Read Full Review

    Comic Watch - Ariel B. Nov 23, 2022

Another great issue! Action Comics #1048 blends superheroic smackdowns and emotionally charged family drama to great effect, while simultaneously moving the characters into position for whatever comes next. Its great to see Lex Luthor back in full classic form as well I never thought Id feel this badly for Metallo but here we are. I have a feeling that Im going to miss the current, more focused format when the book changes in January. Read Full Review

Weird Science - Gabe Hernandez Nov 22, 2022

Bits and PiecesAction Comics #1049 brings Superman back to classic Superman form with big fights and evil Luthor plans in the making. That said, the Luthor thread feels oddly disconnected from the main plot, and Perkins's weird body distortions don't fit a book starring the Man of Steel. Read Full Review

The Comicbook Dispatch - StoryBabbler Jan 25, 2023

Action Comics #1049 continues the plot lines with the New Gods and Metallo returning. While you'd think the New Gods story with Superman would be the most interesting, it ends up being the lesser of the two. The comic does have a resolution with Superman and it's an inspiring little bit for the character. Meanwhile, the writing and art for the Metallo portions of the comic are the best and hold the most intrigue for the series going forward. Read Full Review
