And then there's Gary Frank's art, which is truly breathtaking, and quite possibly the most impressive work of his career. Frank not only supplies some stunning visuals, he also captures the appropriate emotions and desperation of each and every scene, making this whole story feel as important as Johns no doubt intends it to be. Johns and Frank keep upping their game with each issue, and as a result, this arc just keeps getting better and better. This is a Superman story for the ages, one that no fan can afford to miss. Action Comics #869 was another well crafted issue by Johns that presents an excellent mixture of action and drama. We get plenty of nice character work to compliment a captivating plot that hooks the reader into the story. Action Comics #869 should have mass appeal given the balanced nature of this issue. If you have not read Action Comics in a while then I would suggest giving this title a try. Johns is doing his best to make this title a consistently solid read each and every month. But for this one misfire in story-telling, Action Comics #869 does a lot right. It nails the scope needed for the situation and even gives an interesting cliffhanger to suck you back in for next months installment. But seriously, who wasnt going to see this through? This is one of the biggest Superman stories in years. Its repercussions will be felt for months to come throughout the entire line of Super-verse books. On this point alone Action Comics #869 is worth the price of admission. Read Full Review

Weekly Comic Book Review - J. Montes Sep 21, 2008

Superman finally finds a way to defend himself, but as it's pointed out, there's nothing he can do that Brainiac probably hasn't thought of. The way this issue ends is quite stirring and fans of Star Trek may feel like they've seen a scenario like this before, but the fate posed to Earth is undeniable. Sure, there's no way Superman (nor DC's editors) will let something like this come to pass, but I'm hoping Geoff Johns will find a way to wrap this up in an entertaining fashion. Read Full Review
