Michael Cray had no right being as good as it was. This was a fantastic series that, at the very least, highlighted the character of Michael Cray as much as it did the writing talents of Bryan Hill. The last few story beats are horrifying. Hill makes it clear that this is not a happy ending. It is an ending that is haunting and memorable. As far as I'm concerned, this is the definitive book about Cray and the one that others should look at. He's a viable character and this team made him something worth talking about. Read Full Review
It is actually sad to see/read the conclusion of this comic book. It's that good. Cray's ultimate target is Diana Prince. Assassinating Green Arrow, Flash, and Aquaman is one thing, but Wonder Woman? Enough spoilers. The conclusion to the series is as satisfying as it can be. You'll need to read Michael Cray " all twelve issues to best appreciate the craft of Bryan Hill's vision. Over the last year, Bryan Hill's reinvention of the 90's Wildstorm antihero Deathblow in the Michael Cray series has turned into one of the most inventive series on the stands. Far from being a generic "tough guy" superhero like he was originally, Michael Cray became a complex character " a government agent, a proud black man with the life lessons of a tough-but-loving father, and a man hosting an alien intelligence that was slowly trying to take over. The Michael Cray series ends in a way that manages to feel fresh, exciting and inevitable all at the same time. The limitations of the art notwithstanding, the story is told in a clear, dramatic manner and the issue's final page left this reader at any rate with a very satisfied feeling. Read Full Review
