Fortunately, life often mimics art. Just as Cliff Secord jets in for a well-deserved reunion, so does this book swoop in to comfort longing hearts and raise our spirits to the future. After finishing this issue, any doubt I had about this series washed away. Rocketeer Adventures # 1 not only serves as the perfect love letter to this beloved character, it also acts as a wonderful advancement of the series and universe that Mr. Stevens created not so long ago. Rocketeer Adventures is jam-packed with enough creativity and sincerity that it's a loving testament to the genre as well as to the character--much like Dave Stevens intended. The second issue promises some more giants of the industry (Geof Darrow, Darwyn Cooke, and Mark Waid), and it's safe to say Stevens would be proud of how high Cliff Secord can still soar. Weekly Comic Book Review - Dean Stell May 22, 2011

This is a must buy for comic art fans. I'm so glad that IDW got this level of talent to dust off the Rocketeer who hasn't been used much (or at all) since creator Dave Stevens died years ago. I think Stevens would be happy with this effort. Read Full Review

Major Spoilers - Matthew Peterson May 21, 2011

Earlier this week, Kurt Busiek said on Twitter (yeah, I'm on Twitter... Shush...) that this was "The Dave Stevens Tribute Album," and in that respect it's a smashing success. All the creators involved are clearly fans of Dave's work as much as they are doing their job, and the results are phenomenal. None of these creators are scheduled for next month, as best I can tell, which may mean that the vignettes we read are intentionally not going to continue next month, but that's okay. There were only three Rocketeer stories in the better part of 20 years, but I like the way this issue shows us small moments from what could be inferred as a long career in the mystery man business for Mr. Secord. Rocketeer Adventures #1 was my favorite book of the week, and the only thing that would improve it for me would be Dave himself still producing it, leading this one to earn 4.5 out of 5 stars overall. I'm not sure how long this title is scheduled to be around, or how long it would really be able to Read Full Review

Rocketeer Adventures has so many great things going for it that you'd be a silly fool if you didn't pick it up. The Rocketeer is only 30 years old but much like Dave Stevens did in his original comics, these creators succeed in producing timeless and iconic pulp stories that all comic fans can enjoy. The book also gives us two pin-ups, a creepy entry from Mike Mignola and a sexy cheesecake shot from Jim Silke, one of the best to work in the style since Stevens himself. The Rocketeer is too great a character to be left sitting on the shelf any longe. Im very happy that IDW has dusted him off and is doing him proud. Read Full Review

Add in two pin-ups from Mike Mignola and Jim Silke (the latter of whom is certainly well-established as a Bettie Page artist) and you've got a great comic. This isn't just for fans of Stevens, but a way to hopefully help create new fans of Stevens. As nice as Alex Ross's cover is, I do wish all the copies came with the Stevens cover so they could see that he was an artist just as good as the talent assembled here, but hopefully new readers will seek out Stevens' works. Even if not, though, this is a nicely done comic from all parties involved. Now that I've read the first issue, I'm eager to see what else "Rocketeer Adventures" has in store. Good stuff. Comics Bulletin - Karyn Pinter May 22, 2011

There was certainly more good than bad in this first issue, so well chalk it up as a worthy effort, although nothing will beat the late Dave Stevenss original works. What I really hope is that Rocketeer Adventures will inspire more people to go out and buy the collected works of Dave Stevens and get to know the real Rocketeer. Read Full Review

Comics Bulletin - Thom Young May 22, 2011

While all three stories were excellently illustrated and well written in terms of dialog and plot, I would have preferred a full-length story by any of the three teams over the short vignettes they provided. Eight-pages just isnt enough space to tell an adequate comic book story unless youre Will Eisner, Dave Stevens, or Alan Moore (and perhaps a few other older creators from the past). Read Full Review
