It doesnt really matter that Ghost Rider (at the time when this team formed in our universe) should be Danny Ketch, not Johnny Blaze (this was a mistake Parker made in his script, and what Mike subsequently drew); Johnnys the iconic character, and his tortured nature provides a sobering tone for this battle against eldritch evil. The Skottie Young sequence (where Dr. Doom is possessed by Mephisto, but resists his control) is a little hard to follow, and doesnt capture the clean and shiny approach that Wieringo always brought to his work. Art Adams is much closer on that front. But Young does capture the dark side of Doom, whose trafficking with magick was important to the Waid / Wieringo era of Fantastic Four, too. And overall, the creators succeed in telling a believable and touchingly upbeat What If? which also serves as a moving homage to their inspiring friend. Read Full Review
