If you are a fan of the Rick and Morty the TV show, there is no reason you won't be a fan of this comic. CJ Cannon's art looks exactly like the show and Zac Gorman's script is spot on as well. Writer Zac Gorman, known for his fantastic work in animation (Over the Garden Wall) and comics (Costume Quest) alike, has a steady grip on original creator Dan Harmon's vision and style of humor. The beating heart of Rick and Morty is a knowledge of, and critical disdain for, sci-fi tropes, from the metaphysical nonsenses of time to the logical conclusions of endowing animals with consciousness. Gorman and arist CJ Cannon nail the feel almost perfectly"the downcast look on Morty's face when Rick punctures his self-esteem, Jerry's pitiful cowering, it's all very uncanny. This book is pretty much geared to only diehard Rick and Morty fans and not much else. It's a fun read and I hope that it makes people more aware of the show, but that's the only real reason for this book another Rick and Morty series to exist. Read Full Review
A good, solid adaptation of an understandably hard-to-adapt and strange TV series, the comic is enjoyable and will be fun for both fans of the show and people with a slightly kooky sense of humour. It could definitely do with some work though and I hope that this is just teething pains as they find their feet in a new medium. Read Full Review
All in all this isn't a terrible comic but it needs to up it's game to keep me invested.Fix the sloppy art and keep things looking more consistent. Don't drag out these plots to keep people buying. Maybe that seems nitpicky to you, but one of the reasons that theRegular Showcomic is one of the few things that has been consistently on my pull list is because the page layouts frequently take advantage of the fact that they are comics and not just cartoons in a book. I need a reason to come back toRick and Mortyrather than just watching the television show. Altogether, it was an enjoyable experience in that it reminded me of all the great episodes and moments and quotes that I loved from the show. The issue looks and feels like “Rick and Morty” even if its not quite the real deal. I enjoy the show enough to take this as an alternative and I'm willing to bet if you are a fan you'll enjoy the experience. Read Full Review
Fantastic 1st issue of a fantastic show!!!! The art looks great and it is very well written.
The art is really well done and the characters and the environments look the exact same that they do on the show. I don't think this comic is as good as the show but its enough to keep me interested because I really like these characters. I'd rather them save the really good stories for the episodes. These comics are just side stories that keep me occupied between episodes.
The first issue captures the look and feel of the show. The jokes aren't as hard-hitting but I need my fix yo, so this will have to do until the show seasons are longer.
