oku: the Inner Chamber received the 2009 Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize and it's easy to see why. It's an imaginative, thought-provoking, entertaining story. While this opening volume suffers a bit from inconsistent tone due to exploring too many ideas at once, it shows a great deal of promise.
