I think this story show much promise. I am a big fan of the Original Torch and the Invaders (who are well represented here). I think Cantwell is a good writer and I am looking forward to the next issue..
This is the best series I have read in years! Each issue was better than the previous, with character growth, twists, turns, heartbreak, and then hope. A part of me would be very glad to see the story continue, or have a sequel; another part of me finds the finale so great, that it would be hard to top! But if there is I will be there. Cantwell's treatment of legacy characters is superior!
Who will survive in this fallen world? Who will rebuild it? Atlantis? The machines? A long-suffering humankind? Namor faces off against the Original Human Torch one last time... and then his own underwater empire. In the end, will anything be left to rule on these conquered shores?

I think each issue of this series gets better and better. This issue has both hope and heartbreak. It is a perfect example of the old saying "If you do not control your emotions, your emotions will control you." The writing is some of the best I have seen in recent books. I like that the legacy characters (Torch, Namor, Cap) are together in this "What if" type story.
Namor confronts the original Human Torch and his hidden machine enclave in the Arctic Circle. What are these machines' true intentions? The death of surface-dwelling humans? The overthrow of Atlantis itself? Old grudges will reignite as the Torch and Sub-Mariner take their battles to the skies and seas once more!
I believe this issue to be the best so far as it sets up for a (hopefully) powerful finale through issues #4 & 5. The mystery deepens and Namor and the Original Torch final meet. I look forward to what comes next!
Namor and Luke Cage trail the Human Torch to the ruins of Latveria, encountering ghosts of the past... and GOLEMS OF THE PRESENT. Plus, a startling revelation about the surface-dwelling refugees here causes Namor to spiral? Is a conspiracy afoot? And will his roiling feelings for the Torch cloud the truth or reveal an awful reality too late?

Does Jim Hammond, the original Human Torch, yet live? Could he hold the key to the salvation of Earth's human refugees? Namor seeks to find out. Accompanied by Luke Cage, the Sub-Mariner sets off across what devastated surface of Earth remains, looking for answers and following traces of his oldest adversary...

I think this first issue sets up what could be an interesting story.
A century into the future, not much land remains on Earth. A combination of a worsening climate and a devastating war with the Kree has left the surface of the planet mostly inhospitable, with an ever-dwindling population of air-breathers and a profound lack of super heroes to protect them. Enter NAMOR, who these many years on is no longer King of ...

I give this high a score more for the supporting cast (The Torch, Namor, Toro, Doom, Abomination). They are the ones facing true tragedy and fear while fighting to survive. On the other hand, the Maestro's plans for conquest never seem to be in any real jeopardy. Perhaps that will change in coming issues.
I do also like how half of the Invaders are in this story. It would be great of some v more
BATTLE AT PACIFICA!
The Maestro is out for revenge against those who attacked him, which has led him straight to the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, right into the underwater city ruled by the Sub-Mariner, Namor! But the Maestro might be outmatched... or, more likely, out-limbed.

This first issue starts things off well and including the Original Human Torch is genius! Being a prequal, though, I am interested to see where this story goes.

I would have rated this much higher it it were called Marvel Team Up or Marvel Two In One because it tells a good story about CA and Namor.
If, however, you are a fan of ANY of the other Invaders, there's not much there. In fact, The Original Torch, Toro, Winter Soldier, and Spitfire appear on one page only. This, and the numerous errors in the Torch's history, are my biggest knocks on this more
With the world about to undergo its biggest disaster ever, CAPTAIN AMERICA and NAMOR are nowhere to be found! But on a tiny island in the ocean, two men are having a long overdue conversation. DEAD IN THE WATER continues here!

I have been a fan of the Invaders from way back and have found some of this series to be good. This issue for me, however, is the worst. Up to now, the Torch has been very much a secondary character (not even listed on the cover); but (spoiler alert) Namor beheading him made this issue a loss for me. Did the writer look at anything written about the Torch previously? It seems like years of buildinmore
DAWN OF X!

When I was a kid I became a fan of the Original Human Torch and the Invaders. This series is one of my favorites ever! The stories are good. The art never disappoints.
The Invaders are brought into the modern world, their stories advance, and (yes) the Torch is given a lot to do! He even has a love interest by the end. His character has much to offer in terms of good stories (see the T more

"DEAD IN THE WATER" CONTINUES!
It's WAR as NAMOR takes on ROXXON! Meanwhile, CAPTAIN AMERICA and WINTER SOLDIER recruit a classic INVADER in their attempts to bring NAMOR to justice and stop his infiltration of the world's governments!

The series great (overall) but the Torch under utilized. This issue is a perfect example of that. He "declares war" and is not seen again.
DEAD IN THE WATER, PART TWO!
How did NAMOR change the world? All is finally revealed here as the WINTER SOLDIER tracks down the world's greatest threat! Meanwhile, the TORCH's life changes FOREVER and CAPTAIN AMERICA deals with the fallout as ROXXON targets ATLANTIS!

This series was excellent and I am very sorry to see it end. I think James Robinson is an excellent writer and the art was consistently top-rate. This series got me back into comics. thank you Mr. Robinson!
