Chris Claremont Anniversary Special (2021) #1

Jan 13, 2021

The Chris Claremont Anniversary Special has a clear objective of revisiting and honoring the work of an iconic writer, which it does a good job of doing. However its value to a reader may likely be determined by the familiarity of Claremonts body of work. The end result is narratively disjointed, self-referential to the core and at times lost in its remembrance of greatness and creates a barrier to newer readers., However, the gorgeous art and coloring highlight some of the most interesting ideas and its relationship to Claremonts defining body of work.

Crema #1

Aug 5, 2020

To simply recommend Crema does it a small disservice. This book is a love letter to love swathed in the richest flavor imaginable. And one that enchants and haunts you with the taste of coffee all around it. It also doesnt shy away from conflict, pain and trauma, shining a light on a historically rooted evil, but also survivorship of that conflict through queer love and friendship. All rounded up with the most astounding surroundings and scenarios.

Marvel's Voices: Indigenous Voices #1

Nov 16, 2020

If theres something that this visionary and narrative challenging book needs is more. Each of the stories presented has the potential and the strength of bringing something new and different to the tapestry of Marvel, and each of the teams pulls out amazing work in so little space. So, after closing the last page, a question has arised on our side: when do these creators get to come back? And how do we get more trust in the enduring possibilities of pieces like the ones in this issue?
