Wrestling fans will be familiar with many of these tales, so it would be silly to assume they are who this graphic novel is primarily aimed at. Rather this book has a much broader appeal. It's a strong piece of storytelling in it's own right, which is sure to hook the casual observer, too.

That said, there were really no major problems with this issue, and it showed both Faith and Angel's separate subplots unfolding gradually. This should appeal to both diehard fans and the more casual Buffyverse observer alike.

The big sell for this book was always going to be the 'star power' of the creative team, but there is definitely something truly interesting here, and using this opening issue as a launchpad this series has lots of potential.

I liked it when I got what was going on, The art was reasonably solid throughout, and I will admit I went into the series with reservations about whether Walt Flanagan could deliver that based on the handful of times his work has been published. However, these reservations were largely overcome. The bizarre story was augmented by the similarly weird imagery that accompanied it. Looking back at the series I would definitely suggest people read it, so as to compare notes, and I would certainly suggest horror fans should pick it up to experience its weirdness. Just so long as you realise this is a series that certainly wont appeal to everybody.

But the main recent I like this is that it synthesizes all the Doc Savage qualities that others have liberally borrowed throughout the years fully. Think Buckaroo Bonzai in Indiana Jones's clothes and that is exactly what he should be and for an opening issue that is what we are given.

Putting it simply this is a great team, a great story and a great ending for both Matt Smith's Doctor as well as IDW's Doctor Who run.

Whether you are familiar with this particular Doctor isn't necessary as it offers the usual trappings that make the core character so great, the eccentricities, the blue box and the companion.

This makes me pretty interested about seeing how it is followed up. It wasn't on my regular list but job done!

If you were expecting a Moore like examination of metaphysics, then you were always going to be disappointed, but if you are looking to grab something for the kids then Grumpy Cat will fit that role.

This series definitely has potential, but let's see how the rest of Dynamite's King imprint fares before making any bold predictions.

Regardless, Either of this weeks King Dynamite books are worth picking up, and not just for fans of Kings Watch or the Defenders of the Earth cartoon from which most of today's generation will recognize these characters. Both issue ones offer up an exciting formula for a new expanded universe using these much under appreciated characters, and things are definitely looking exciting for this imprint going forward.

The story reaches its conclusion here with plenty of drama as the status quo for the three heroes is drastically changed, and change un such a way that the cynic in me felt was some of the climax was traded to clear the way for inevitable solo series for these characters. Whether this was writer Jeff Parker's intention however, I am uncertain.

I feel that we gush over Matt Fractions writing here to much at times since we often talk about the greatness of Hawkguy. So I went into this looking for flaws but there aren't many. I found this a genuinely funny and engaging read. The characters were well-developed, the concept for all it's silliness was tightly set up and the art on the book was out of the norm. All of which is a breath of fresh air compared to the monthly sea of superheroicswe are exposed to.

In spite of that, this issue serves as a strong opening. Evidently this isn't an origin book and quite rightly too because that can be easily pieced together or dealt with later as I am sure it will. And rather than bogging us down with the origin, it moves us straight into the story. A wise choice, in my mind.

Now that his family and core supporting cast have been interestingly established, Solar has one or two more feathers in his cap. Now I want to see where the story goes with him and how he will interact with his family.

So to recap, you have a rich story deep in weighty themes about a man of two worlds. This is definitely a non-"Big Two" title that everyone should get on board with because it is definitely one of the stronger new series to hit shelves in recent times.

Not a great read by any stretch of the imagination, But if you are a fan and looking for something by way of a little continuity bridging this would appeal to you but I couldn't get excited it just brought nothing new to the table at all really other than incorporating the Kogan character who was rather ancillary in Salvation to begin with.

So to summarise, It is dark/gritty/noirish et but there is a real hook in here that makes it stand out from that whole post-Miller 90"s angst comic crowd.

After reading this I will probably buy into the series but I expect something a little bit more substantial after this point in the story and with the talent working on the series Giffen, Jurgens, Sciver, Azzarello etc etc" I don't doubt they can achieve that.
