The art team of Jason Paz and Carlo Pagulayan has done a great job of bringing Priests words to life. The movement, the colours, the hues, depth, it all comes together in a way that draws you into the story. Theres only two things that are a bit of a distraction. One being Clock Kings threads, which isnt really down to the team. The second is faces; they all come across as a bit basic and lacking in character. The exception is actually Clock King, whos face really tells a story.

The thing is though, this is the first issue, the reintroduction. It is great to have a John Constantine that comes across more akin to the golden years. Add on that, hes back in England, so we get to see some of his classic supporting cast, like Chas. So yes there are stumbles, but there is also promise.

Although it did take a while for this story to come to life and there were ups & downs along the way, Id say there was enough here to have you at least try the next issue.

It might have had an odd start, but all in all, this is a great time to start your journey with Nightwing!

A BIG problem with the art, especially with this issue, is the inconsistently when it cones to depicting Raptors skin tone. It is extremely disrespectful to flimflam all the time over his appearance. Skin is not a t-shirt that can be interchanged at a whim. Plus, you never see this with Batman, Wonder Woman or Superman. So if the plan is to introduce a character of colour, respect and consideration must be shown in the details. I have to say as well, if the idea is to make Batgirl look like shes weathering motorbike leathers, adding a cloak doesnt enhance the look. A part from this Javier Fernandez and Chris Sotomayor do a solid job with creating the right tone for the book.

Seeley has given himself a foundation to build upon and create a compelling future tapestry for Nightwing.
