This series continues to impress me with every issue and this one has been the best so far. As we head to the conclusion in issue #6 the reader has no idea how it will end and what will happen to the characters. Will Dusk somehow free himself from the path he has chosen? Will he meet the justice he deserves for that chosen path? Gage has done an excellent job dealing with the setup to these issues and I am eager to see the finish.

I've praised Gage and this series before on this site and I continue to do so. This issue brings us to a point eerily similar to Captain America #25. However, I make no claim to know how the series will conclude next issue. I can't help but understand the motivations that drive Dusk to kill and at the same time feel for the character as he has lost everything in the process of his mission. Gage nails the character and the theme of the series.

The book was a very solid introduction to the storyline and overall story of the Black Coat. Solid efforts by all involved--excellent pacing and layouts and a good mix of action and story points.

This series has been met with a great amount of positive reaction from the fans, this issue included. And there is a reason for that. The team of Johns and Reis are putting everything into this book and it shows.

I have really been pleased with this book. I know many fans sort of ignored the book following the first issue thinking the series was more of a vanity project for Kirkman and McFarlane following its very public genesis and subsequent creation. However, the book came to be it has been enjoyable. As a fan of all the creators involved I was anxious to see how the mix of all involved would work and it works very well. This book is solid and satisfying on all fronts: art, plot, and execution. And as an aside I would applaud those involved for the $2.99 cover price. Hopefully that entices even more readers to give give this book a try.

As much as I appreciate the recap page in the front of the book, though, this series by its very nature screams for some back matter, be it just a page or two going over the history of the characters in that particular issue or even in what comic certain scenes portrayed in the book originally occurred, much like the Torch/Namor fight. Hopefully, that type of background information will be included in collected editions. Brubaker and Epting continue as one of Marvel's premier teams in this issue and the series should not be missed by any fan of the creators, Captain America or Marvel's Golden Age.

The Pilgrim #1 was a very good setup to a series that has an interesting and distinctive premise. The talented creative team, with legendary veteran Mike Grell at point, deliver a real solid issue that intrigues me enough to continue buying this mini-series monthly instead of trade waiting. And that is a big factor for me and my comic book budget.

Last year Stuff of Legends was one of those books I always directed new readers to who wanted to see something different past superheroes. When the trade collections came out I used them as examples for readers new to comics as a whole. Stuff of Legends: The Jungle continues that high standard.
